The comparison is invading sovereign a nation.

I used to think that America was a sovereign nation. But without a secure border and allowing a major invasion, sovereign kind of goes out the window. And that was intentional. So why are we focusing so much on the border invasion of one sovereign nation across the world, while completely neglecting our own? Americans are all paying dearly (financially and otherwise) for ALL these decisions. It does no good to save the world while destroying our own nation at the same time.

China, also has a dictator, corruption, and limited freedom and the difference is that the people of China have lived in extreme poverty for longer, but believe their leader to be a kind of demi-god. Especially serious party members (sounds very similar to the Democratic Party in America). Would the Chinese people fight to the same extent that the Japanese did during WW2?

China is a very complex country. People in the big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and others, generally have a much higher quality of life, better career opportunities and social benefits along with a higher social standing. People who are born in the sticks, and then later move to these larger cities, still retain that lower level of benefits and social standing for the rest of their lives. Equality in China is a foreign concept.

Regarding internal opinions about their government and leadership, you would have to know someone for a very long time and earn their trust before they would ever give you their honest opinion. That is because they all know the walls have ears, so to speak. The CCP really doesn't give a shit if someone is a loyalist, but the one thing they do not tolerate is anyone speaking or acting out publically against the party. And most don't dare. My read is there is approximately zero appetite for war among their masses, and that is based on their culture more than anything. They are generally a practical people who are devoted to family and friends. Fanatics, willing to die at the whim of whichever coddled old fool is currently in charge of their country, they most certainly are not.
