So I boiled up my first buck this weekend and it's drying out right now. This was a really small buck (not sure if this matters) and it had hair growing through the base of the horn sheath. I did a quick google search and couldn't find anything on this. I considered leaving it as is, but I didn't really like it so I ended up taking a lighter to those hairs and burned them off. I was a little concerned that I would mess it up but it looks totally fine.

Anyone else ever seen that...if so how did you deal with it?

I'm actually getting ready to glue the sheaths from the buck I got last month on tonight and have the same thing. Think I'll try your fire trick, thanks!

I use a torch to burn the hairs.

Usually can get the horns/sheaths off after 10-15 minutes in the “boil”.
Cool, thanks! Sounds about right. I probably pulled the sheaths at 20 minutes...total simmer time was probably around 45 minutes. I couldn't believe how fast it went...way faster than any deer or elk I've done. I did end up spending more time with the pressure washer this time as I was trying to save the nose bones which I have never done before. Worked pretty great!
