Etolin Island

I have just not seen the roads on google or OnX hunt but I have been primarily looking at terrain maps on the southwest end. I have not set foot on the island but I was fishing on the south west part of the island in Mchenry inlet on my own boat last week. I did 2 100 mile boat trips completely around Etolin and Wrangell island as well going to Anan bear observatory in the last few weeks. I have been a sportsman in SE Alaska for over 20 years, I have hunted POW, and I can "see Etolin from my front porch." Having said all that I am a total noob as far as elk hunting and hunting in general. I know Zarimbo to the north of Etolin has logging roads as well. I welcome any insight you have as to accessing the roads system because I have so much information to gather in a short period View attachment 203839
Do you live on Wrangell?

All I know is you Alaskan guys are tougher than the rest of us. Anyone coming from the lower 48 to do that hunt has to have a screw loose. (no offense intended to you Nevada Mike)

We were chasing bears there in the spring and came off of one of those mountains in the dark one night, it was absolutely miserable.

One of the worst hikes out I’ve had in the field. Steep- no big deal but it was so thick it took an hour to go 400 yards.... and all the while it was raining so hard the rain was blocking the beam of my headlamp. After three days on that island everything you own is soaking wet

No offense. You are correct it is brutal with foot sucking mud and no trails. As a bonus there are fallen trees everywhere to climb under or over. I am a reasonably fit distance runner and I remember we were only about 1/4 mile from camp and my too far away to pack anything out warning light was already going off.

I know there are guys here that hunt Rosies on the Oregon and Washington coast and it’s very similar to country like this.....one word: miserable.

i’ve bowhunted one of the rainiest spots on earth-the north side of Kauai ......and these islands are somehow worse.
