Received my exhibition grade English walnut stock from Richards today. This I had asked to be cut in their classic rollover style fitted for a Tikka T3X lite 6.5 PRC with a one piece, aluminum high desert trigger guard in place of the plastic stock option.

I took it out of the box and just wetted it to see what we’re dealing with as far as grain flow and appearance and very, very happy with what I’m seeing. The stock should finish up into a very, very nice heirloom quality rifle.

I probably have at least 20 to 25 hours of sanding, final shaping and bedding and then once I start doing coats of oil it’s typically wet sand in a coat let dry for 24 hours and repeat for 25 to 30 coats.(I want a high gloss finish) So for sure I have some work in front of me and this won’t be done anytime soon but should definitely be able to complete it and have the rifle ready to go for a fall hunt. Richards was fast as their turnaround time was about 7 weeks.

My goal is to finish this rifle up and have something of quality that I can give my son that stays in the family and continues to get passed down for generations. Assuming we draw also take it to Wyoming this fall and try to shoot an antelope with it.

Took the day off work today and put a few hours into the project - got it fitted and inletted. Need to glass bed it next, then start the exterior shaping and sanding.
Needing to take a lot of wood off the outside to get it were it needs to be. The grip areas come with lots of wood for hands far bigger than mine.
