Ur shooting a rifle, more room for error elk lungs are huge, save the meat on the shoulders and shoot a bit further back. I absolutely hate when people shoot through the front shoulders, ur wasting meat, what’s the point of hunting ur gonna ruin meat on purpose. Avoid spine shots, neck shots and shoulder shots, center of the body up and down, about 6” behind the shoulder they aren’t going far if at all.

I’ll wait for him to take that additional step. I don’t like getting into the shoulders and far enough back to miss the back shoulder probably misses onside lung.

I've ruined too many shoulders, I'm shooting here with a rifle.
I am with this. I like poking it through both lungs and no shoulder. It’s also more centered in the vitals for error front and back.

You don’t need to break shoulders to stop them.

Every elk I have seen hit through ribs, they hump up, and dies within about 30 seconds. Maybe get 20-40 yards. It’s as if they don’t know what hit them.

A couple I have seen hit in the shoulder muscle take off running like a cat bit them. It’s like it triggers a reflex.
