Hi guys. I'm looking to go on a guided elk hunt, probably going to be a once in a lifetime experience. I'd like to stay under 7k and don't have any points. I've been looking through alot of outfitters and have been reading good and bad reviews so I'm not sure what to believe. Do you guys have any recommendations for outfitters at a reasonable price that you had good experiences with?

If I was booking a possible once in a lifetime Outfitter hunt for rifle I would book opening week somewhere.
All things being equal you get the element of surprise where they are not yet aware the Thundersticks can reach out beyond Archery range.

I personally prefer Montana over Colorado for less hunters encountered. My outfitter of 25 yrs retired
so I don't have a good suggestion there.

Once in a lifetime. Do you want the best chance at a trophy bull or not? What you want might not be what the next guy wants. Would you be OK with a raghorn? Would you be OK coming home with nothing but memories and pictures of sunrises? There is no right or wrong answer.....and the only opinion that matters is yours.

If it's truly once in a lifetime and you do want a nice representative 6 pt bull close to 300", you need to be hunting on private land.

Private land hunts for 260-290 class bulls are running about $9-13K. You could go on a $10K and end up killing a 330 class bull, but it is like hitting the lottery and highly unlikely. The outfitters leasing the land/hunting rights to a given property year in and year out generally know the trophy caliber of the local herds and will be charging you accordingly.
