How in the hell can you tell? I’ve always late seasoned rifle hunted. Never heard an elk bugle in the woods. How can you tell if you’re getting Doug Flutied?

It will typically sound much much better than a hunter and volume is so much greater in depth and tone if you don’t know go to it better to be fooled than walk from a bad bugling bull👍also there will be variation and not a repetitive pattern every single time lastly one thing I have seen with hunters they don’t tend to bugle to a cow call so often when in doubt cow call

Depending on what kind of call tube combination human sounds can sound a little hollow too. Sometimes the “aggression” doesn’t match either with what a novice human caller sounds off. But i do think the number 1 giveaway is no variation and repetitive with the same call sounds

I don't think the sheer volume, bass, or echo of an actual mature bull can be replicated. When you hear one, you know. And if you don't know, your new.

Love the Doug Flutie reference though. Nobody could jump and hurl an accurate pass across his body like the Flutie. Fooled everyone.

Worst bugle I ever heard was from a 6x6 bull. I almost messed up the opportunity because I thought it was a hunter that had no clue how to bugle. I don't think anyone really has a clue hearing just a bugle or two but given enough time and bugles you can kind of tell by the reputation.

Watch the Born and Raised “Land of the Free” and “Land of the Free 2.0” also “The Bugler” on YouTube... stole it from them!

I had a response to a locator bugle from across this canyon. He was firing back pretty quick after I would call. There was one or two times that it sounded real “tubey” for lack of a better word. There were some motorcycles to the north of the bugle. I was locked. I couldn’t find a way through or around the brush in the area I was in. I booked it back to my rig and tried to make my way to a different area. Got it responding again and it was getting further away. There were people at the creek making noise. There was just so much going on. My thought was that a bull wouldn’t hang around all the other noises. I was switching between bugles and cow calls. Trying to mimic whatever it was throwing my way. But it kept sounding more distant 🤷🏼‍♂️

The deep back end will tell you as well as darn few bulls grunt after they bugle, 99.935% of bowhunters grunt several times after they bugle, and none of them can grunt worth a darn.
Grunt? Or chuckle? Most hunters I know chuckle after they bugle, but not grunt

Most hunters I've heard are using the Primos Blue Reed bugles, and those are pretty darn easy to pick up on. I've only heard a couple while hunting that have sounded realistic enough to catch my attention. You'll also hear the bugle.........several cow calls.........another bugle.........several cow calls.........etc, etc. I like playing with those guys.

Also depending on who is in the area they might sound like a real bull. Not many however some guys are that good I couldn't tell you how many people my dad has called in over the years I had a buddy go with him a few years back when he started calling my buddy swore there were 2 bulls hahahaha

I always listen for the back end sound. To me, it sounds like an echo or resonation can be heard at the end. From a distance it's harder, but from a few hundred yards it pretty distinguishable.

If you’re in Colorado from September 15th on its most likely a hunter.

I’ll never understand the guys who purposely call guys in? Why slow down both of our days.

If I think it’s a hunter I will cow call 3 times real fast. But more then once that’s spurred the guys on.
