Elk Of North America : Ecology And Management

Anyone have a source for the infamous Elk Of North America : Ecology And Management book by Thomas and Toweill? The wildlife institute website is sold out, with no plans to print more. Amazon/Ebay has them for several hundred dollars, but I think I can eventually find one sitting unused under someone's coffee table much cheaper than that.

I got mine from the wildlife institute about a year ago. I wish I had bought a couple more at the time. It would have been quite the ROI.

No thanks. I think I can find something cheaper if I'm patient. I'm in no rush, hoping to come across something in the next year or so. Just thought I'd check for ideas here.

I'll check the library out. Doubt they have it on hand locally in the Midwest, but maybe they can order one in for me.

I just looked at the Wildlife Institute books and I can't believe they don't sell it anymore. I ordered a copy last year, I guess I should have purchased more than one. If you just want to read it, the Library would be my next move.

It was mentioned on the recent Elk Talk podcast and, if I recall correctly, the publisher has no intention of a future print though a digital version may be in the cards.

i think i paid like 40 bucks in 2010 for mine......

They originally sold for $40 back in the day. The first one I saw was in Jackson Hole at the elk refuge. I was in college and couldn't afford it back then. I lucked into one at a thrift store about 10 years ago and grabbed it. It contains a wealth of knowledge. Keep your eyes out for it in thrift stores or used book stores. The prices on eBay will probably never change or get worse. Good luck.
