Elk in northern idaho

9:30 in the morning on the 8th day following the eve of the day following the autumnal equinox, provided barometric pressures remain within two standard deviations of the 365-day moving average.
So..... 9:30am, Saturday September 30th? Last day of the season. Not a bad choice. I was thinking of last 2 weeks of September.

The rest of your smartass reply was irrelevant to my post and is all out of my control. You just look like an idiot.

Just looking for suggestions here.

15th to 25th. Lots of wolves up there. Thick country too.
Thank you for the reply. Hauling ATVs out there to get back a ways and save the hiking legs for the hunt through all of that thick stuff. Do you know if it snows at all in the last 2 weeks of September?

Describe best. I have spent the last 3 Septembers in the mountains of north Idaho. I have found the first few days are the best for calling in curious non herd bulls. September 18th has produced herd bull encouters every year. The last few days net you spooky elk 90% of the time and 10% of the time you can get a big bull fired up.

Every year has been similar so far....this past season seemed to heat up a bit slower.

It was still getting up to 70-80 degrees the last week of September this year. It has snowed in September before, but more than likely not.

Just messing with you, man, perhaps fueled by the grape. Best time is when you find em. Best place is where you find em. Good luck.

I’ve seen snow approaching a foot deep in September.

Your atv will be useful.

As much of September as you can take to hunt. It’s a tough game hunting the suck.

I seem to remember a road along the Idaho - Montana border near Noxon Mt. what parts of Idaho it gives access to I have no idea. There is a border road in the st. Joe country. A lot of that country is very steep on both sides.

Most of mine are late in the month the bulls say these days are good🤙last one is 9/30 best thing is rifle is sometimes better than archery for calling 🥰💯

I’ve had great calling days the first couple days of the season before and I’ve had years where I didn’t hear a thing until October. Can be a lot of variance in this part of the world

As for snow it’s certainly possible, but not common is the best way I could put it.

Pilgrim Creek Rd comes ip from Noxin and runs along the border.

Two years back we had to chain up to get off the mtn in September. Some drifts were several feet deep.

It melted in a few days. It was 80 a few days before the snow hit.

My biggest concerns are the incredible wind storms that can hammer the big woods dropping trees with ease.

That chit freaks me out.
