Elk Hunt Public Land SW of Grand Junction

Anyone have experience hunting southwest of Grand Junction on public land? We've been hunting Unit 15 near Steamboat the last few years and want to try something new. Any advice, comments, etc, would be appreciated.

Your question is too vague to answer very easily. How far south and how far west? Immediately SW you’re in unit 40 which is limited draw and not much public, great hunting though. A little further and you’re in 61 which is extremely limited draw and even better hunting. Unit 60 is SW of Junktown and OTC but holds few elk and is tough hunting. If you want to go further south, more directly south than southwest, then you’re quite a ways away from Junction but there’s some OTC opportunities down there.

U need a butt ton of points to draw 40. Maybe best elk in Colorado tho

Hunted around there years ago. Lots of private property mixed in with the public. GPS with a chip was a must.

62 is OTC. Sea of orange and year around ATV course due to all the old roads. There’s elk there, but success rates are low. Beautiful, varied country.
