What in the world are these meat eating birds and how the heck do they find an elk carcass so quick?! Are they following us through the woods? We don't have these devil birds in the east.

Just give them some gorp and they'll be busy for a while.
They can be entertaining in camp but earn their camp robber name.

There’s a video of a cow elk chasing down some goslings and gobbling one up. I saw the subject line and thought I had to post...

Grey Jay aka camp robbers aka whiskey jacks. But also magpies and ravens. Worse than coyotes or bears. But if you didn’t recover your elk and are searching the next day listening for their chatter is a good way to find it.

Thats a crazy video. Looks like a young one that wants to play. Doesn't know what its doing. It didn't look like it ate the bird. Killed it and then started grazing.

I just call them "meat jays". One year I had cut out the ivories on a bull and laid them on a rock to dry while I finished breaking down the bull. One of those jays swooped in and stole one of them.........bastage.
