Drew a once in a lifetime Oklahoma elk tag.
24 years of points.
They have a restriction on 270 and larger.
I own 223,6.5 and putting together a 6cm now.
So I need to buy a new tikka just for some practice and this one hunt.
I have no plans to keep it so I want a combo with 500 yard capabilities with the lowest recoil possible.
I don’t reload so would be using factory ammo.
What combo of caliber, barrel length etc will be the easiest to get rid of?
I thought about buying a 308 and just keeping it but not sure I will ever use it with my 223 and 6cm.

I'd go 308, 30-06 or even a mag but personally id stick with a 30-06. Go a little bit heavy on the bullets and have fun.

Thats awesome on the tag draw!

You setup to swap barrels? Could get a 7mm-08 or 308 barrel to put on an action you have for less than a whole rifle.

Where is the restriction posted? Best I could tell from their state site seems like anything 55grain and up was the law. I've seen similar caliber listings on tpwd draws and asked some of their reps at a hunt expo (one I was interested in said .270 with 150gr or larger and I asked well isnt a 308win "larger" by that standard) but they just said good question. I mostly just dont like the vagueness of the requirement, not sure they actually check your barrel/ammo box!

It’s in the fine print when you apply and in the confirmation emai I got.

If you are set up to swap barrels, I'll mail you a 16.5 inch 308 Tikka barrel for shipping cost, just mail it back when done.

Edit: never mind, I see you aren't.
I appreciate that a ton but just not set up yet.
Maybe that and reloading in the next few years!

OK the state says a 270 is minimum. Where is the 150 gr bullet stated? Personally I like the heavier for caliber on the bigger game, but that's me.
I'd just pick up a decent rifle in 308. You can buy ammo up or down in weight. Pretty universal. Or sell it after the hunt.

What about one of those kimbers from psa? If you're already planning on reselling you won't lose money on those.
