Okay, it is between 140gr Accubonds or 130gr TSX or TTSX. I just figured I could save a little money. Seems like the Federal 140 Accubonds are cheaper than anything loaded with 130 TSX.
Whichever one shoots best!

Interesting thread for a southerner who traveled west many times for varmints. Was under the impression you needed a thirty caliber something with several letters after the number. Have read many articles and have sat around a few campfires while someone with a 270 goes on how they are a magic deer killer . Could never understand why an over the counter rifle company has never came out with a 27-08. Seems like a good fit as all the other 308 knockoffs are very popular . Have a 25-08 souper that is a real shooter and suitable for anything up to white tails may have to have my barrel maker make one in 27-08 any thoughts?
7mm-08 would outsell it. The the 277 caliber bullet on average doesn't have a real high bc. The 270 sells alot due to its flat shooting from its velocity out to 400 yards. After that it starts dropping bad. Not saying it would be a bad round, I just think there are better options out there.
yea the 7-08 is very good, but does the 280, the 30-06 necked to 7mm, outsell the 270???
I'm typically an archer for elk but this year I ended up with a tag that had me using my old trusty Winchester .270 featherweight. I switched to Nosler Accubonds this year and took down a nice cow with it. These were also the same bullets I used on my Wyoming antelope hunt to take two speed goats and to take my mule deer and blacktail deer this year. 5 animals with 5 well placed shots with a great bullet. I had not used my rifle in years and this year the bow and muzzleloader definitely got skunked by it. For me, the Nosler Accubonds performed very well.
In factory ammo, I would recommend the 140 Accubond or 130/140 Barnes TTSX.
What bullet would you guys recommend for taking elk with a .270? I am thinking 150 grains. I'm not hand loading, looking to buy factory ammo.
What do you guys use?
Thanks,
Nathan
Sounds good. What would you say about shooting 130gr Hornady SSTs on elk? That is what I am shooting now on deer and they shoot great. I don't know much about the bullet, and I assume they wouldn't be ideal.
these threads have a real impression on me . just ordered some ttsx in 25,30,338 from sinclair. they should be just the ticket for the hogs that come out of the swamp in my back yard. Thanks for the replies guys. I don't think I am going to be using the SSTs. There's lots of things that might fail on a hunt, why add one more?
I will probably find some TSX or TTSX and try them out. I haven't heard a bad thing about them. Otherwise, I'm sure Accubonds or Partitions would work great as well.
Like I said, I don't know if I will ever even gun hunt for elk, I like bowhunting the best. There is a possibility I would go this fall, and I want to know what to get if I do. It is great to hear people with first hand experience.
