I loaded up 20x 230gr ELDX to try out in my model 70 .338 win mag. Ive always shot regular soft point jacketed bullets from this rifle, with a few accubonds. It always puts a dent in the nose of rounds in the magazine, and ive always had problems with bullet setback with it.

Since I was testing out a totally new combination of stuff I was paying a lot of attention. Noticed a red thingy fall into the magazine after ejecting a round, and found this. The tip was in the bottom of the magazine.

Have yall seen this happen before? Now im nervous to use them since this could end up in my chamber and make bad things happen. Is this indicative of some type of problem with my magazine?

I know, get a smaller rifle, etc. Im stuck with this one for a while longer.

Haven't had an issue (yet) but I've seen others having the same issue with ELD bullets. Doesn't mean you don't have a magazine issue but broken tips aren't uncommon.

Haven’t seen it with Hornady bullets before. Saw it with a whole box of Winchester Supreme loaded with Accubond CTs. There appeared to be a film of oxidation in the tip on the lead. Any oxidation in the hole?
