Title pretty much says it. Looking for thoughts on 162 ELD-X bullets out of a 280 ackley for black bears. Time has not been my friend this year making load development nearly impossible. Thinking about shooting factory ammo.

TIA

Me and my group used the 162 eldx out of the 28 nosler pretty extensively for around 4 years. It's an extremely effective, versatile bullet. Even at 3250fps at the muzzle we never had a bullet "blow up" like so many are(incorrectly) worried about.

There's a lot of info on here about bullet terminal performance, I'd recommend doing a search.

Wouldn’t bother me at all, my 1st bear was with a .280 Remington, 150gr Winchester PP , 200 meters in the shoulder = DRT
the eldx probably will have core & jacke separate, if that bothers you well 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️, shoot a bonded bullet then

Me and my group use a .223 with a variety of bullets including a 77TMK.

Lots of options out there.

Some greatly more effective than others, especially in ways that matter.

ELD-X is at the top of my list for black bears. And I don't feel that way about the ELD-X for every other species.

I know this response was a while ago, but could you give more information on why you think it’s a great bullet for bear vs other species? I’m leaning hard for using the 175gr ELDx out of my 7PRC, but haven’t made my mind up yet or worked up any loads.

A 162 Eldx through the lungs at 440yds via 280ai ruined this bears day. I’ve killed more animals including elk with the 175 out of a 28N. Both are fine big game bullets if placed properly.

We used ELDM bullets (basically the same thing) in a 308 and 6.5 Grendal for multiple bears from a 6 foot grizzly and a 6 foot black bear down. No problems. I tend to think they do a bit better then more traditional bullets I used before. Use your ELDX with full confidence.
