El Paso / Las Cruces Sliders?

Looking to see if there’s any members around El Paso, Las Cruces, Alamogordo, Cloudcroft area?
If so, do you happen to have “high-end” binos or spotters? I’m wanting to upgrade from my mid-tier vortex binos and vanguard spotter, and would really like to look through quality glass in field conditions prior to spending a good amount of money.

I’m coming up at just a year here myself, so just missed each other.
Hope you’re enjoying Germany! I have only gotten to stop in there a few times, usually just quick turn refuels, but there were a few times the plane “broke” which allowed us to explore for a few days.

It is a hunting place. Just don't get stationed at Garmisch, as there is not a way to take the hunting course there unless you are fluent in German.

There is a bow shop in the shittier parts of Las Cruces, that has a lot of Swarovski.

You might ask Sportsmans Warehouse in Las Cruces if they will step outside with you with a tripod and take a look.

Outdoorsman's is in Arizona if you are headed that way, they have multiples of everything in stock to try.

You could also consider looking up the rental places and rent 2 or 3 of them and see how that goes.

I was woefully disappointed being a very myopic vision person in the eye relief in most things. 20-400 is my script.

I have their big S2 spotter. I like it a lot. I had a 65mm swaro before and the meopta is much better.

And using my sig 15s next to my friends’ swaro slc 15s in the field hasn’t made me want to buy swaros yet.

Yes, quite a few.

Picacho Hills

East Lohman to the mountain and. North.

North Valley on the West Side of I-25. (the Deers suburbs and North).

Sonoma Ranch

Way less shitty compared to other border towns or Indian reservations.

Everything West of I-25 until you get to Picacho is shitty, there are some nice spots south of the College, but not many.

Most of Tuscon is way shittier than Las Cruces.

Northeast El Paso and Far East El Paso and North West El Pasoa are all similar to the areas I described.

Alamogordo is slightly better than Las Cruces,but not all of it.

Roswell is a crown jewlell compared to Las Cruces, I believe Roswell is the nicest mayor town in Southern New Mexico this would not include places like like Ruidioso, Cloudcroft and Silver City. As they are dinky doo.

Carlsbad is about as shitty as Las Cruces just half as big.

Swarovski is the gold standard as far as glass is concerned. For guides that brand is considered a business investment. For my hunting style, I would rather put the money into other things I would need. I had a mid-tier “boat anchor” for years but didn’t use it much because it was too bulky and heavy to carry around. The glass quality wasn’t good enough either. A few years ago, I bought a Maven CS.1A which is a 15-45x65. Very compact and carries well in the day pack. The glass quality is excellent. Maven only sells direct. They also have the phone adapters. I bought the zip up jacket which turned out to be well worth it. Here is a review by one of the Rokslide gear experts:

I've owned a ton of the "Mid Tier" optics tho. Still own Meopta 12s for an All Around western glassing from tripod. Pretty big fan. Still own a 10X42 HD that I've wanted to move for a few year. Nice, clear, sharp, etc. Just don't fit into my system. A bit dark image at twilight compared to other optics.

Do own the big 82mm spotter. Very nice.

My hunting partner has 65mm Maven spotter. I have 65mm Swaro HD spotter. I would pick the Maven and I've run both side by side for several days.

I think the biggest issue I run into is analysis paralysis. There’s just so many options out there and I want to “make sure I’m getting the best bang for my buck” and stick to the “buy once, cry once” mantra.

Fully understand. And strongly suggest you stick to your plan and attempt to look through what you want. The Sportsmans Whorehouse idea is sound, but you really need a bit of time behind them.

I live at the top of a long valley now and can see several miles. And I have Outdoorsman studs on all my optics. I can sit behind a tripod mounted bino for hours....and do.

When it's full value sun and bright....the Meoptas win. Once the sun sets and you're glass shadows....even with like objectives....the Mavens clearly (get it) win.

I just can't pony up the money for Swaro. At least today. I do own a set of 15X56 Big Eyes. Getting them at LEO pricing was a decade ago and required to write them a hard copy letter and cert. Not some jinky GovX BS where everyone gets the pricing.

Ran them for years. Game changer. But I think there is better glass for cheaper today.

I've turned a lot of people onto Maven. I get nothing from it. Other than being a Blue Collar guy and using several models. They are that good.

I do think Maven has a "rental" program to try before you buy. Might be worth a shot if you do research and find and interest in them.

I bought the B6 10X50s. Lighter to pack and much brighter than many models. Love them. I though pocket binos were stupid. Until I bought the 8X30s. Wow. I would not feel terribly hamstrung if I forgot a full size bino and that's all I had. So much that I bought a set for my wife's car. They are incredibly clear.

Turned my friend onto his 65mm spotter. As I said....I ran it side by side with a Swaro HD ATS 25-50 (the wide angle eye piece that is supposed to the Clear one). Maven kicked it's ass.
