Had I known these were Michigan made (like myself) I would have given them a try! May snag one for my girl

Arrived today. Looks to be made pretty well. No blemishes I can find.

Going to test it out tonight. Low is 14 degrees.

Will report back

Email them…Brian was very quick to reply(unlike the other 2 major companies I emailed) and answer all the questions that I had. Couldn’t be happier with my decision to go with a custom sized El Coyote 10*(LongxXX-wide)…yes, that’s not a typo, he made me a XX-wide quilt for like an additional $10!

Anyone have experience with both el coyote and katabatic quilts? It seems like these are the two favorites I’ve been hearing about lately, and I’m trying to decide which to get!

Still waiting to hear back from Katabatic….email was sent 6 mo ago

Thanks @Northpark Im 5’10 and 185 so similar sized. Plan was to get the large xtherm to go with the quilt, and use it inside my borah bivy. I wear clothes to bed normally so that would help too. I do roll around a lot though…

Last question for y’all. Whats the plan if a pad pops? It keeps the heat between you and a cold ground. Ive spent some 20* nights on a popped pad and those were the worst. Seems like a trip ending situation, although kind of rare.

Popped pad that is unpatchable? Thick bed of boughs and clothing/pack under you might save the hunt if available. In cold weather I always bring a solid pad for that very reason, but also to protect my inflatable and provide a little more insulation. Not enough insulation to save you, but over enough boughs and clothing it's enough to get through the nights.

A spare 20" insulated inflatable pad would probably weigh less. :)

I bought an el coyote from a member on here and was messing around with it at something like 10pm on a Sunday evening. I emailed about a question I had on the pad attachment system and figured I would get a response some time in the next week. Brian responded in about 5 minutes and we traded emails and pictures for a half hour until we had the issue sorted out.

Top notch CS and excellent quality. Very happy with my quilt.

I had multiple pinholes in my exped I couldnt find, even at home. Sent it in to exped and they fixed it by submerging it in a pool with weights. Then they did a leak test for 2 days with 150 lbs of weights on dry land. Very high quality CS. But $&@! happens. I had used pine boughs before because of the pad issue, even though its rare. Guess I could leave my current pad as a spare in the truck in case it pops on a longer hunt. If I get a quilt Im getting the xtherm to go with it. I too have a solid foam pad that comes along if temps hit below 15* and that could save the hunt too.

Ive also been considering hoodless sleeping bags. The zipperless ones are impressive for weight saving. My heads shaved so wearing a beanie/neck gaiter to bed is normal in the woods.
