I use a wide pad and am a side sleeper. I am 5'8", 180#. What width should I get? I also like to have my head under the blanket. Do I need the long or does a reg fit? Thanks.

I'm 5'11 and use a long wide pad and a long wide quilt, I just prefer it and based on what you said I don't think you would go wrong getting a bigger quilt the the reg. It is only a few oz penalty.

Thanks. I guess I'm worried about too much dead space. I've had sleeping bags that were way to big and almost froze.

Naw, just like your bed spread you can easily tuck in any extra but you'll find it's not an issue. I went with a 0* because you can't make a 30* bag get warmer but you can vent a 0* bag easily.

I have had my 10 deg. down to about 25 degrees in a Omni raven bivy sack from Tigoat. I had to strip down to boxers. Im 5 11 @ 250 & use the widest I could get. Not sure off hand what length it is. Then again, last month I was in 25 deg. weather with the same quilt in a tent, & I was most comfortable in long johns & socks with the quilt snugly secured around me. I was warm & comfy though. Cant beat EE as far as Im concerned.

I had my 0* down in the teens and wasn't cold at all, I use the exped sl9 pad in a large wide. A good pad is the key ingredient to using a quilt.

I have a 20* regular EE quilt. I've slept under it on my Xtherm in a set of base layers in ten degree weather with no real issues. I am 5'10" and can cover my head with it with out any problems. The adjustments on these are pretty generous to allow for venting.

After all was said and done I went with a wide/long. It showed up today and I mess around with it tonight. I'm think that the long was the right call though.

I think you'll be happy. I got the reg and on really cold nights I was wishing for the long. I ended up putting my puffy jacket over the top of my head.

I also picked up a garage sale synthetic and plan on using it a a pillow or extra warmth if need. I'm going to have the mom in law sew up a little smaller pillow case with a Velcro closure. I'm pumped to try this system out.
