EDC Knifes

Get an Osborn or mini Osborn. They are fantastic EDC blades. I had a bug out, it was nice enough but felt like a piece of plastic gas station knife. A set of metal scales would have addressed that but I decided to sell it instead ha.

...

I went to the mini Bugout S30v dark handle with black blade......BUT

I should have gone to the Orange handle....never a bad idea, IMO.

I picked up a black/black mini BO and came to the same conclusion as you. I ended up getting some orange aluminum scales and really like the little knife. I picked up a kydex neck sheath for it and carry it when hunting so I can get to it easily regardless of layers (usually just under the outer layer) when pockets are hard to get to. Fixed blade stays in the pack.

The last year or so I've been carrying a Benchmade Full Immunity w/bronze handles, black M4 blade as my EDC. For daily cutting tasks I like the little knife but do believe the mini BO is a better all around blade design.

Great choice with the Osborn. I prefer it over the bugout. I have been carrying Kershaw Bel Air for the last 5 months or so and love it. USA made, magnacut, cerakoted aluminum handle from the facotry.

I have the Osborne in G10 and like it quite a bit. BM is pretty spendy for what you get IMO though.

Mini Griptilian for me. One lasted me for 16 yr until I was in a hurry and carried it into the Missoula airport....

Just picked up a Deka as well. The grip on the Deka seems very thin and flimsy. G10 grip is about $60 dollar upgrade. That puts me at the same price I paid for the Benchmark. Looks like I’ll be returning the Deka.

That's only because of your gift card. The Osborne you got is $340 most places, you can get a G10 Deka for like $170. The plastic Deka is much more comparable to a plastic Bugout, and a G10 Deka is still cheaper.

what are yall using your edc for most commonly? for me it's opening/breaking down boxes...nothing rugged or cool... benchmades are nice...i've gifted a couple bugouts to friends and they all love them. i have lotsss of knives find myself carrying a kershaw leek most often. i like the slim profile. the open assist is very fast and convenient.. and realistically, i don't need a better grip/blade given how it's being used.

Anybody else have issues with their Bugout's losing pins, screws, etc. all the time?

I bought the M390 bugout with the aluminum handle, and to be fair beat the absolute crap out of it, but it drops pins like nobodies business even with loctite on it.

They offer a 30% discount for guides and military. I didn’t account for the gift card in price. Yes, pretty expensive MSRP. Blade seems great on the Deka, guess it would be a different story with G10 handle.

Okay, so with the 30% discount the Osborne is still $238, still significantly more expensive than a G10 Deka.

Same mostly. Opening and breaking down boxes, packaging, and mail. Sometimes cutting a mushy spot out of my daily apple. Occasionally cutting rope, string, or plastic banding. Sometimes in the yard/garden pruning or trimming.

Pretty much all my daily knife tasks could be accomplished with a box cutter, but I enjoy high end knives.

Should have clarified that the configuration of blade style and the steel I wanted isn’t an option with the G10 handle through Hogue. So by the time you add a G10 handle it’s already in the $220 price range.

I am floored at all of the recommendations for Mini anything. Yuk.

I am a Spyderco fan more than Benchmade. Never owned an Osborne but they sure are popular. I should add one.

My EDCs rotate from the Spyderco Manix 2 and Bugout.

Benchmade semi legendary for charging you any applicable tax and $25 to ship a pocket knife. The Military/LEO somewhat of a joke. Amazon or any of the bigger online knife shops w free shipping are generally right there on pricing. Just an FYI

I'm not Military/LEO nor likely to buy a Benchmade unless they re-release the Anthem. Any pricing I mentioned was from large online knife shops.

Mini grip in 20v
Deka in magnacut

Benchmade are nice, but you pay premium price for average steel compared to other vendors. My Deka is just as nice as a bug out but with a better blade steel.

For me, the mini taggedout is the best EDC knife BM has ever made. I have most of the ones discussed here, or have owned them. Has the best blade profile for hunting/edc knife with more belly than the bugout or grip.

This is the mini taggedout compared to the regulard size bugout (mini taggedout top and bottom, regular size bugout middle). They are very, very close to the same size. The handle on the mini taggedout feels more secure in your hand, the cutting edge is nearly identical and like mentioned before, I prefer the belly on the mini taggedout. The mini taggedout is more in line with the regular size BMs, not mini like the mini bugout. The full size taggedout is too much knife for edc.

The clip point and the way the handle is shaped, just give you a better angle to cut as well. The bugout is mostly straight from the spine to the drop point. I dont have a mini freek anymore, but that is one I regret selling and would probably be 2nd behind the mini taggedout.

Hogue Deka added for size reference. Id take it over the bugout as well. Toss up between the deka and mini taggedout.

I prefer the point on the kershaw leek for an edc folder. There is also a discount through the popular discount sites for first responder and mil. I have the carbon with cpm154 and am happy over the list of benchmades I have used.
