Eberlestock Payette Down, Black Ovis Anchor Point Down Pant, or Outdoor Research Allie Colossus pant

I’ve been looking at the Black Ovis puffy pants and the OR Allies Collosus pants as well. Not sure which ones to go with. The OR seem like they may be more durable, but the Black Ovis appear like they may be warmer. Lots of reviews on the Black Ovis pants, only a handful of reviews for the OR pants.

I have both the Black Ovis puffy pants and the OR Colossus pants and both are great options but fit different needs for me. Both of these are very warm, the Black Ovis are about half the weight and pack a lot smaller but not even close to as durable as the OR. The OR Colossus also seem to be completely water and windproof from my experiences. Hope this helps!

I ended up ordering a pair of the OR Colossus pants a few days ago when I saw that when adding it to the cart the price dropped another 25% from the already discounted price. Ended up being $84 for the solid color and $117 for the multicam.

I own the BO anchor point and OR colossus pants. Have used the anchor point pants for the last two years and just received the colossus pants in the last week or so.

As mentioned above, they are really different from each other. One is down, the other synthetic.

I’ve used the anchor point pants and they have performed well, as expected. For an insulating layer, they kept me warm with minimal bulk. Pack up small. Do not get them wet, as they lose insulation and loft, like most other down garments.

The OR colossus - do not have any field experience with them yet. Outer shell material feels pretty stout and durable. Really can’t say much on the warmth without any field experience. The insulation - they give it a special name on their website - the tag on the pants says a mix of recycled polyester and polyester. (Sharing the fill information because previous versions of the colossus line used primaloft gold; this most recent version does not). When I opened the package they reminded me of a pair of snow pants.

On the Eberlestock pants - really no experience there. And other than listing 850 fill power it did not appear they have any specs listed on the amount of down fill, which is important to know. One of the reviews on their website indicated it has 12 oz of down, which is obviously incorrect. The total garment weight may reflect the amount of down fill. Kind of hard to know.

I did email Eberlestock (who I think is the most underrated premium brand) for info on these pants, they currently are on black friday sale for $120 and I just froze my ass off white tail hunting in Nebraska. They responded that these pants have 5-6 oz of down fill depending on size, that seems much more realistic than the 12 oz of down as posted above.

I did order them as that price is just too hard to beat, I will try to remember to report back here after i go back to nebraska in two weeks for more muzzleloader fun.

For those with the OR Colossus pants did you order your regular pant size? My use would be over other pants while glassing or riding in on ATV. Wondering if I should size up?

I’m a 30/32” waist and I ordered the mediums. They’re a bit loose in the waist since there’s no elastic or a way to cinch them, but I mainly got them for glassing/treestand hunting anyway so I won’t really be moving with them. They have loops for suspenders though so if they were a little loose and someone wanted to move in them, that might work to keep them up.

Oh yeah, you’ll be good with the medium. Also, there is some elastic in the back, and you can sort of tighten them with the Velcro strap in front but not by much.
