eBay clothing smells- How to get rid of them?

I buy a handful of wool "vintage" clothing off eBay. Yea...not too proud. I should maybe buy new and full price for how many "vintage" wool Pendelton shirts in XL I've won...that are maybe Medium at best after they've been washed and shrunk for 25 years....

Many have a Funk. Some strong Musk of some other person. Or closet. Or cat piss.

Any tips or tricks to get rid of it? THese are wool items. Even with no dry cycle, etc I am kinda hesitant to wash them conventionally. And those that I have.....it does NOT get rid of whatever closet smell they carry. Wool seems to hold Life Long funk better than anything else I've worn.

I've dry cleaned some items. I don't really think it does much for smell.

I am about ready to brine these bitches......

Baking soda 24 hour soak and hang dry? Contractor bag full of horse shit and clothes....and let soak for a week?

Seriously tho

Ozone machine.

Atsko sportwash.

I buy and wear wool clothing specifically because it doesn’t smell even when I do.

Have never had the issue you described. But if a smell can be gotten out - one of those two, or both, will get it out.

I use conditioner or baby shampoo when I get sweaters from ebay. I almost always have to stretch them back out to their actual size as well so I soak them in water and conditioner for an hour or 2. I have never noticed any odd smells after that, but I've also never had them show up smelling like anything worse than a stale closet.

Kyle- I can send you a Snap Shirt or two and you tell me if you notice a smell. Every eBay package I open...smells.

Just bought a used wool Gallatin Columbia wool Shirt Jac last night. Fugger smells of GrandPa. If it was my Gramps maybe I wouldn't care. But yours....not so much.

This is the easiest and cheapest method to attempt. Honestly think they will pull and absorb funk though?

I tried everything to rescue a Yeti cooler that I left a turkey breast in for months. Nothing worked. Until the charcoal thing.

Also rescued a used vehicle we bought (smelled like chicken curry). It's worth a shot!

Try Lysol laundry disinfectant. Pretty commonly used in the jiu jitsu world to sanitize and get smells out of clothing
