Eating my words.... BT1 as a daypack

OK, so I admit, I have had the DT1 and DT3 and have been known to complain about the idea of the DT1 compressed down for day usage. Up until yesterday, I had only really used the DT1 on 3+ day trips and most of them were summer camping, not hunting. My main gripe was that even though it compressed... you would still have to wade through all of the expansive space to get to your stuff and have 12 feet of straps hanging around.

WELL, yesterday I got my Bikini frame and decided to throw the T1 bag on there just to see. I love it! Yes, it takes a bit more effort to get everything in place and compressed, but boy it is not nearly as annoying as I thought it would be. I put my BOMB bags, garbage bags, rope, and poncho tarp in the bottom compartment and it compressed down to nothing. It may be tough to get at quickly, but I don't need that stuff unless I kill something, and it is basically forgotten about it compresses in so much. I put a Grab it on (because I have a grab it on everything no matter what!) and a small belt pouch. I have the large belt pouch on the lid for stuff I will need to get to quickly. I forsee this working great.

I will still use the T3 bag for when I am on my horses.... because they get to do the heavy hauling if something goes down. But I have a hard time seeing may situations besides that and shed hunting that will see the T3 bag on my frame.

7730 c.i.
6 pounds 1 ounce ( and I think I could shave .5-1 pound off by cutting crap off like aaron shows.)
Ability to do hour long hikes from the truck.... to 7+ days and haul whole animals out in one trip.... amazing.

I cannot think of a more versatile, comfortable, practical, and bombproof system out there. Other "versatile" packs like the CC/eberleetc cant haul the weight comfortably and weigh almost 2X as much.

QUESTION: What are you guys doing with the long straps when compressed to keep them from hanging all over the place?

What video of Aron cutting things off are you referring to? I'm pretty sure I'm going the Bikini/Highcamp1 route, so not sure if it would still apply, but I'd be interested to see it.

i kinda tuck and roll them up in the bungy

I do this as well.

On the two Kifaru's I've owned over the last year, I actually ended up trimming anywhere from 2-5" off each delta strap, load lifter straps, and chest strap. Still left plenty of strap if I ever were to sell the packs, but the chest strap and load lifter straps would whip me in the face at times in high winds and that was that. Also removed the snow collar and I hacked up my longhunter lid on my new BT1. I think I cut around 4 oz of straps off, not to mention the LH lid and snow collar and I think I'm down to around 5 lbs 8 oz or so. Love the pack configuration and that LH lid is probably my favorite upgrade on my new pack.

Let em hang or just bunch them up and shove under a compressed strap.. If you let them hang it gives the affect of a Ghillie Suit!!!

ive been saying the T1 is the best day pack on the market for a long time now. what other day pack gets to 7000cu when you drop an animal and weighs less than pretty much every other 4000cu packs.

I gave my dad my eberlestock x2 so that I am forced to use my dt2 for day hunts this year. First year going in with only one pack!

Glad to see you came to your senses. :)

I tie all my extra webbing in bows. Lol. It works perfectly for me.

The middle one is the BT1.

800 or so cu inches for 3.5 ounces is a great deal. :)
