I am planning to switch from a whisker biscuit to a dropaway rest. Any recommendations for an easy to setup and tune dropaway? It will be on a Mathews HeliM if it makes a difference. I'd like to set it up myself but don't have a bow press or any other tools. Thanks in advance.

Lots of folks will suggest the Hamskea Versarest because its a solid rest in every aspect. If your budget allows its unlikely you would be disappointed with it.

Now on my HeliM I use the QAD ultrarest and I am very happy with it.

I would recommend the QAD ultra rest. Setup, timing, tuning are all very straight forward. And it has a clamp for the down cable, no need to serve it in or separate the cable strands to tie it in.

Just pay attention when you are setting the timing and make sure it indexes at the hash mark in the last inch of the draw cycle. I have had excellent luck with these on two of my bows. Never had an issue with mine or any on bows that have come into the shop where I helped tune bows part time.

Hamskea versa full containment with micro tune very nice and very solid rest!

My only complaint is its on the heavy side but that's also why its bomb proof

Check out the vapor trail limbdriver pro v. I just ordered one (should receive it tomorrow). Read lots of good reviews on this rest and from what I gather, you don't need a press to install it. Worth a look anyway.

I have the QAD Ultra on my Helium. Pretty solid, but did have one issue with it: Hunting in freezing rain, it froze solid on my and wouldn't drop. Got it thawed out in the cabin that night, next day froze up again from residual moisture. Conditions were pretty extreme, and cannot say that any drop away rest would not have done the same. I suspect they all would have. But I almost switched to a whisker biscuit after that. It cost me a 170" whitetail.

If you want simple then go with one of the limb driven models. There is no tuning or tweaking required. Setup is simple, level the rest with the riser so arrow bisects your berger hole, set centershot and tie the cord. All you need are some allen wrenches and something the hold the bow level.

I really like the Trophy Taker Smackdown Pro arrow rest. Really easy to setup. It comes out of the box setup for bottom limb activation, but you can have it set for the top limb if you want too.

good..!!! i bet i could talk my wife thru setup..over the phone. it is that easy.

having said that..mine did fall apart. that set screw that holds the cable lever arm came loose and WHAMO!! everything fell into my lawn. tiny parts and pieces..i panicked and put on my AXiom Pulse..another GREAT rest. paper tuned in one arrow!

i put my smackdown pro back together after watching that video on youtube. it works great again, but it is riding the bench..i am not messing with it again, during turkey season. the SD pro is so much easier to load an arrow, than the pulse.
