Ok everyone, I am looking to go on my first black bear hunt. I am a farmer and hunting guide from Mississippi. I’ve been looking at North Carolina being I’m looking at November December time frame. I know a diy hunt with no dogs will be challenging, but as a regular guy I don’t have the excess funds to spend on a guide or outfitter. Any tips on better states or areas is greatly appreciated. My area of ms is filled with bears but we do not have a season so I am familiar with bears activities at least in my part of country. All advice welcomed. -Jon Barrentine

I would suggest looking up the harvest reports for previous years. Eastern NC is well known for our bears ( i took one myself last year). Public land will be few and far between but still some good hunting!

Feel free to shoot me a message. I live in North Georgia. Not sure what you're considering a late season hunt but anything after mid October gets increasingly harder to get on bear
There you go I can’t hunt in Cohutta in October without running into to bears hell I’m sick of them.
I’ve shot so many in there over the years now I just see how close I can get to them to run them off!

Buddy I’ve never found bear hunting with dogs any easier then hunting them on sit if you scout for a few days in late September you can smoke one for sure in October they will be on Whiteoak acorns and if you find that one tree he is using he will be back everyday until they clean it up. There was a guy from North Ga that said message him that’s where I would go 100% bear populations in NGA
Are so high I quit deer hunting in a lot of eras simply because all I ever saw was bears.
