I'm a diy Carolina guy that's been trespassing on public land out west for several years now. I've mainly hunted elk in timber so haven't had a real need for a Spotter. This year I'm planning on above timberline chasing mule deer. I sure I need to invest in a Spotter but I'd love to hear some opinions from those more experienced.
My thoughts:
I'm from NC... this won't be a everyday use for me. I'm of the mindset I want to get the most value for my money... buy once cry once within reason. I want to give myself best opportunity to fill tag. I want to harvest mature buck but I'm not trophy hunting. I hunt backcountry out west... everything carried in on my back.
With this in mind my number one choice so far is the Maven CS1 with the Athon Ares a close second. I think this gives me opportunity to stretch my view with limited weight. The higher end scopes would def be better but not sure it justifies the expense being that I would only use it a few times a year. Fyi, I have Nikon and Maven binos. I think i could justify upgrading to higher end binos but want to get spotter first. Thanks in advance for the opinions.
