Early SLC 10x42's- opinions

I've found a great price on a pair of early SLC 10x42's, looks like they were produced in 1994, in black. Now I have not yet been able to afford anything with Swaro on it but I have found the value of used binos. I am currently using Gold Ring non-hd 10x42's, which will be sold to buy the SLC's.

I know asking how these 22 year old binos compare to current models is pointless. That said anyone know of glaring issues with the early SLC's? How would they rank against my current Gold Rings from a resolution and color standpoint? Ideas as to value?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Just me. I think your moving mostly laterally with this move or maybe even a touch down.

Well, the only real way to see is go out and compare them side by side. But since you asked for an opinion, the older swaro's will suit you well. I actually prefer the older swaro glass----my eyes just seem to like them better. My first set of quality glass was a 8 x 30 swaro's that I bought in the 80's and I wish I would have never sold them.

I have a pair of the Swaro black SLC 10X42 binos. I think these are excellent glass. I have looked through the new Swaro hd slc 10X42 binos, and I really am not able to see a difference is resolution. My binos are every bit as sharp as the new slc glass, in my eyes' opinion. Low light performance is excellent as well. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will comment, but I think the new hd glass gives more improvement in image color than pure image sharpness / resolution, when comparing the older Swaro slc vs the newer Swaro hd slc binos.
Get the Swaros. You will not regret it.

Thanks guys. Kind of where i was at on the quality. I really like the Gold Rings but it's one of the few times in my life that brand may trump utility. There not SLC HD's or EL SV's but i think owning even an older pair of Swaro's will get me off my pattern of constantly upgrading looking for the best in my price range. Oddly enough I found these yesterday, the day we were bringing our new baby boy home from the hospital. It seemed like sign that I needed to stop wasting $400 a pop on the next best not alpha bino.

I know the Swaro warranty if not transferable, these have some fine scratches on the objectives and the "swarovski" nameplate is missing. Any idea whether it will cost me a bundle?

Well, they're on the way. The deal was just too good to pass up. I'll take the risk on free repairs from Swaro, even if I need to pay for them I should still be ahead.

If any is looking for a nice set of Leupold GR's they'll be in the classifieds someone this week.

I think you just purchased a great binocular I looked at them way back when but they didn't fit my weird shaped face I ended up with 10x40 Zeiss classic and had it not been for Leica with RF I'd still be happily using the Classics today

You will like them. I compare my made in 2002 el's to the Razor HD's, and IMO mine still win. Optics are so preferential. What works for me, might not work for you. The new El's, with the field flattener lenses, drive me crazy. I can not stand to pan with them. Makes the edges seem blurry.

WestNE - I have bought one used set of swaros. After buying them, I called their customer service to inquire about warranty. I told the person on the phone that I had bought them second hand. Once I gave them the serial number, they gave me the UPC number and told me to register the warranty online. You need both to register the warranty online. I was 100% transparent that they were second hand but they still gave me the info to register the warranty under my name. Give it a try - the worst they can say is no but I think they understand how standing behind their product makes their rep and builds future sales. Good luck and congrats on the new binds.

Thank you all. Little question in my mind that I made the right decision. Being a gear geek I am more than a little excited to say that used or new I have alphas on the way!

Swarovski changed their policy 8 years ago to allow transfers. As long as it's not be reported lost or stolen. So you should be soild!
