Has anyone had any luck at all calling prior to say 9/20 or so? Of course I’m not talking about calling and getting a bull to come charging in early in Sept, but will they maybe grunt back or anything that might reveal a location? Is it worth calling at all? Or could that do more harm that good?

Early season you just need to cover country. I would focus at high elevation.

I think your best bet would be to drive a Subaru and have a camera. Moose seems to be attracted to them
We’re talking about real moose here man, not moose knuckles!

Yes, I called a nice one in early, passed on him, regret it every day. If I could have a "Do-over" on all the great tags I've drawn, it would be that day. Still pisses me off.

Once they start walking, they are very callable.

State? province?

Been calling moose for 30 years or so in canada. Earliest I’ve ever got a response was sept 9th. He grunted, trashed some trees but wouldn’t walk out in the open. The next earliest was the 16th. That one took two hours after he grunted the first time to walk into the open at 80 yards. Seems here around the 20th things start to heat up. I find I have my best success around October 1st.
