Where I hunt you really can't make a move on the elk until the thermals switch. We camp up high on a south slope and we usually know where we can find elk. So sometimes we'll sleep in. Especially if we stayed up late with the bourbon shooting the longbows
Though 95 percent of the time I'm up and in a spot where I can listen for elk and not be smelled.
Nothing worse than getting up when it's super dark, getting on the summit and losing patience. Start moving down that north slope a little, to have elk walking by you and even more elk below you.
