Early High Country Deer In Colorado

Has anyone ever hunted the early rifle deer season? I have 12 points and think I am going to try and draw it for 86 or 82 next year. Just looking for general information. Thanks

I'm currently building points for the same hunt, didn't think it was taking that many though? Interested to hear what others have to say.

You need at least 7 to draw and 8 guarantees it. I originally started collecting points for this hunt and then focused on a late season 44 hunt. I now have 14 points.

That's more along the lines of what I recalled that tag requiring. Seems like some of the units that offer the early rifle hunt can be drawn with 5 or 6 points as well?

Was in 86 last year early for a sheep hunt- monster mulies in there.

Yea I am sure I have the points to get the tag. I have been wanting to use my points and think this would be a fun hunt. I just want to use my points on something good.

Get a muzzleloader deer tag, and go hunt high. Same deal, and much easier to get the tags. Same time of year too.

Unit 74 used to be one of the good tags to hold but not so anymore...based on a friend that is a very good hunter. He did tag a nice buck ...but he told me it is not what it was when he started off looking at drawing that unit.
