I’ve never been one to use earplugs while trying to sleep but the past few nights in the backcountry have been miserable. Wind whipping and cattle grazing makes for noisy nights and I just cant seem to keep my eyes closed longer than an hour or so.

How many of you use earplugs/sleep aids while solo hunting. The area is not in dense Griz country although they are around.

Thanks!

Plugs are awesome with wind. Every once in a while I have to briefly fight through the thoughts of "the bear I saw 4 hours ago is going to eat me" but that typically only lasts about 30 seconds then I realize how tired I am and out I go. I also keep the best known deterrent for bears in my pocket. A bear tag.

Unlikely to hear a bear unless you have a perimeter of legos. Wear the pigs, get a good night sleep, and if you wake up as a bear burrito, at least you’ll have ear pro in already!

I don't do plugs because I camp on the border down here where we hunt mostly, but I've found a white noise app on my phone that helps quite a bit. When I'm in the mountains I usually have a wad of clothes over my head.

Alot of times if I wear ear plugs when I'm dirty i get black head pimples in my ears and they hurt like a mofo.

Tylenol or IB Profen PM

I struggle to sleep in general and have recently started taking melatonin occasionally. It seems to help me get to sleep I plan on trying a low dose on my first trip this year and see if it helps. I live in grizzly country to I think if one tries to eat me I want to be asleep and might start wearing ear plugs to so the chewing noises doesn’t wake me up!

I wear ear plugs every night in the back country. For like 3 years now. Even when the weather is calm. It helps a lot with not waking you up just from the noise of the air pad when you move around.

The PM ingredient is the same chemical as Benadryl for what that is worth.

I've worn earplugs for the last several years, but I'm not solo. My hunting partner is usually snoring loudly (and hears nothing) and several years does have wondered through camp, Before I went to a tent, insects and rodents would harass me. It took a while, but plugs and tent have been the greatest aid to sleep in addition to finally finding a quiet pad. A lot of people swear by Tylenol PM, but I've never tried that. CBD after hard pack-ins has helped the body recover/rest as well. You gotta get your Zs in. I've spent too many late mornings/afternoons trying to get an hour more of sleep just to function. Do whatever it takes.

I do earplugs at home and in the woods. I don't do drugs.

As far as a bear situation, I figure I'm at least 50% as likely to make the situation worse as I am to make the situation better if a bear gets near me at night. At least I'll die a gruesome death while well rested.
