Hey group, with the new release of the Horandy DGH Backcountry Defense bullet in various pistol calibers I’m gonna be dumping my 10mm g20 & leather chest rig….I can save +1lb going to my G19 & a few more ounces to my G26 that are already setup for EDC with Holosun & light….after dumping the leather chest rig I am banking on saving an additional 8oz…..I prefer to strap my bino harness over my chest holster but Razco also offers an attachment point underneath for my model……

What are you guys using for Razco or other brands for EDC potential griz country 9mm in da sticks setups ????

After I killed my 10mm @ 10 feet bear.....I went to a 9mm myself. I like the lower recoil and lighter weight. I settled on berry's hybrid 124's for what I want in performance.

I've read of many advocating for the move. I've carried a large number of different calibers in the mountains. Caliber and platform were chosen by evaluating activities, locations, and risks.

One must decide what the priorities are, choose accordingly, and be willing to accept the risks which accompany one's choice.

And we are not required to gain the consensus to do so from others. Thank goodness.

I just hope Hornady releases this bullet as a reloading component!

If you're looking for good straight line penetration, why not one of the monos meant for this? Which have been out for some time now.
I don't see anything this new line of ammo is achieving that hasn't been done for a good while, and I'd also argue better. You could have switched to 9mm 10 years ago.

Put the 10mm in a drop leg, cinch the rig up tight to your belt and tighten it down to your thigh. Forget the 9 for bear, forget the chest or on the bino harness, fix that drop leg correctly and you won’t worry about the ounces.

Most likely the bear will be eating your face before you even start to grab for your pistol anyway. I don't think the caliber matters. If the noise doesn't scare them, you are screwed most of the time.

This argument always seems to go to one extreme or the other...with niether side typically have first hand, in field evidence to support their opinion, just stories or articles pointing one way or the other.
As most folks that get into these debates, I've never had to shoot a charging bear or even been close enough to one to have concern so take this purely acedemic opinion. After much reading and discussion over last few years my take is this:

If you feel comfortable carrying 9mm in griz country for defense and having that pistol gives you the peace of mind to enjoy your time there more without feeling like your being hunted or in constant danger...then go for it.
Same with the 10mm, .44, .454, .460 or .500
Proper shot placement with any will do the trick if need be.
The specifics of the scenario will dictate how it all works out. In some instances it doesn't matter what your carrying, you may not even get a chance to pull the trigger...in others you may have time to prepare and aim well before things go south...I think its all about what you are confident shooting and hitting your mark with in a rushed and high adrenaline situation, within reason of course. I wouldnt consider anything less than 9mm as effective bear defense. Though I'm sure someone's great grandma killed a 10ft bear that was eating her chickens with a .22LR head shot somewhere along the line.

Hopefully they get the damn things delisted and back on the tag rosters. Maybe getting shot at and hunted on the regular will readjust their attitudes towards humans...or at least thin them out a bit.

As for carry options OP... I have FHF bino harness and I really like the Razco under binos kydex holsters. I've got one for G20 and P365. Very functional, light and super fast to draw from. I gotta say, carrying the p365 with 17rd mag is more pleasant than the g20 with 15rd weight and size wise.
Whatever route you go...Practice with what your gonna be shooting. I found my poi a bit different with hot/heavy 9mm vs practice and standard defensive rds.
Also found the P365 does NOT like hot hardcast stuff from Underwood despite being rated for +P and having no issues with other +p defensive rds.

Make sure your gun eats what you want to feed it well and reliably, I'd say that's more important than 9mm vs 10mm.

I had fully intended to have my gun loaded with 200gr hard cast the day I killed my bear. I had a magazine of xtp's loaded up when we met and the 16" trip the xtp made through the skl and busting all those vertebrae is what I based my decision on.

I also chose my 9mm load based on my personal choice and results. Every single one is handloaded by me and I know exactly what I want and have.

Put the 10mm in a drop leg, cinch the rig up tight to your belt and tighten it down to your thigh. Forget the 9 for bear, forget the chest or on the bino harness, fix that drop leg correctly and you won’t worry about the ounces.
Covering a lot of ground every day (especially in mountains) and busting brush is a bad combo for an extra strap around your thigh

Just get a ported 357 mag. You'll both be deaf but the bear will run off at least.

Jk, I have a G20 and they are just big enough to be annoying to carry so I get the swap. The one you'll carry is better then the one you end up leaving in your tent.
