I think this is an answer dependent on quality. With vortex diamondbacks that I have I like 8x because I'm less bothered by my shakes. With binos that have better clarity I can get away with more magnification with less eye fatigue and the wobble seems the same.

Ive either owned or tried just about everything and hunt both out west and whitetail hunt.
If I lived in the east it’s a no brainer I would get 8X. They are easier to handhold and every bit as good as 10x within 500 yds. The 10x are a little better at longer range. I really like 15’s on a tripod for 3/4 mile to 3 mile glassing.

There are a few mid range binos that come close to the top models: meopta meostar, nikon hg and leopold ( cant remember the model) pro guide hd or something like that. edit; Vortex is a good company but you can get better glass for the$$.

my meostars 15x are amazing.... Call Cameraland, worth the call.
I own or have Owned Swaro, Leica and Zeiss- all excellent.... but they have some stiff competition now in that mid range pricing.

Cameraland in Bethpage NY? Small locally owned shop? If so, will do!

Steady 8’s beat shaky 10’s any day. Cheap 8x Diamondbacks are sleepers. I’ve got a set of 6x30 Kowas I paid $85 for that will make you say “what the f$&@?”

Call Doug at Camerland. As in pick up the f’n phone. Not email or “check the website”

Then ask about Zeiss Terra ED 8x42’s.

Telegrams are absolutely out of the question?

Late to the party here . . .

+1 to getting the great pair of 8x's

Later, if spending another $1200 on optics for out west, get the Meostar 15's on tripod. You'll be set for everything, forever, until you have another $1200 burning in you pocket ;)

Pick up a set of used 8x32el. My set is from '07 and I notice only a marginal difference between them and the newest version. I've seen comparable bino's under $1000.

I've gone through several 10x EL and other brand binos, I keep going back to my 8x. I've now added a 12x to the collection and that was the only way I noticed an appreciable, useable improvement from the 8x.

Dont waste money on a spotting scope until you have your system figured out.
