So I’m cleaning out my pantry and I have two big cans of dry roasted peanuts. Do you think deer would eat these? I thought about tossing them out in front of my camera. Any negative side effects for the deer?

I know guys that use old jars of peanut butter, they tell me that the deer stick their faces right in the jar so I don't see why they wouldn't work.

I guess I’ll report back and let y’all know how it goes lol.

I toss all kinds of old food out in my yard, the deer eat damn near everything. Some weird stuff too. They are crazy about bananas. I had a "pet" doe for several years that would walk up to me looking for handouts and hang out in the yard with me when id do yard work etc. One day i was chopping wood and i ate a satsuma. Threw the peel on the ground and she came right over and gobbled it down. Pretty surprising what theyll eat. Theyll definitely eat all kinds of nuts, and the salt wont hurt em.

That’s cool huckleberry. I forgot to update this but the main issue I had with the peanuts was that they got covered in ants. I had a few deer pics on the but’s then I’m assuming that’s when they got covered in ants and not many after that.

Hunting the field edge depends on the field. Peanuts stay very short, & deer often are reluctant to come out until very close to dark. Typically late evenings are best. Stand locations near the field in staging areas or travel corridors leading to it may be better choices. If scouting proves they are comfortable out in the field earlier, hunt the field.

Biggest issue you'll have is that farmer will dig those peanuts just before gun season, & bowhunting a big field can be an exercise in frustration, wishing you were over there or they were over here. Once the plants are dug (or if they are yellowing already) deer will have much less interest in the field, particularly if acorns are available. After digging, deer will continue to feed on the resprouts from nuts that broke off the peg until frost, but often not till 0-dark-30. After picking the field may be littered with peanuts, but they'll spoil quickly if it is rainy.

Deer have far less interest in the peanuts themselves, much preferring the plant. But if you have hogs, be there the first night they turn them; you can fill the larder & endear yourself to your farmer.
