Starting to work up some loads for the Dynamic Research Technologies Terminal Shock bullets. Data seems limited so thought I’d start a thread to compile some. Please post what you’ve got!

They have some data on their webpage but very limited: https://drtammo.com/load-data/

What I’ve tried so far:

Tikka 6.5 prc (rechambered creed), 20” with tbac ultra 7
135 terminal shock
2.863” oal
ADG brass
Gm215m
H4831sc
53gr - 2849 fps
54 - 2890
55 - 2920
56 - 2952
56.5 - 2953
57 - 2995 (slightly stiff bolt)
57 - 3013 (slightly stiff bolt)
57.5 - 3029 (stiff bolt)

Loaded and shot 10 at 56gr. Grouped well but seeing pressure signs. I could tell there was still a fair bit of hornady one shot on the cases so will clean the next batch better and see if it resolves itself. Update: shot 5 more and still getting pressure signs, so going to back it off. Might try H1000 too. Update: 55.5 seems right, 2932-2959fps, grouped okay, will load some more and do some shooting.

Rem 700 carbon 6 308 win, 16” with tbac ultra 7
175 terminal match
2.800” oal
ADG brass
Gm215m
Varget
41gr - 2429 fps
41.5 - 2465
42 - 2501
42.5 - 2541
43 (c) - 2555
43 (c) - 2551
43.5 (c) - 2582

175 terminal shock
2.773” oal
42gr - 2528 fps
42.5 - 2571

6mm creed, tikka with 18" preferred prefit 1-7 twist, tbac ultra7
95 terminal shock
2.580" oal (puts base of bullet at bottom of neck)
Alpha brass
gm210m
RL16
38.0 - 2564 fps
39.0 - 2638
40.0 - 2718
40.5 - 2699
41.0 - 2744
41.5 - 2850
42.0 - 2855
42.5 - 2901
43.0 - 2939
43.5 - 2973
44.0 - 3127 (faintest ejector mark)
44.5 - 3097 (faint ejector and flattened primer)

H4350
40.0 - 2806
41.0 - 2833
42.0 - 2959
43.0 - 3036
43.5 - 3062 (faint ejector)

H4350 shot like ass.

20" 223, 79g DRT

23.5 Varget (c) trued 2790fps
23.8 was very compressed and showed pressure.
Saw in one of your posts that you were getting .475 G1 BC for the 135. Is that still what you're seeing?

Have you shot an animal with them yet? I'm planning on using the 152gr 277 this fall. I've got some of the 175's which I might take on a bear hunt this spring, but I have the 175lrx all ready to go.

I have not yet but planning to use them this year. I think @SouthPaw has a post about performance on an elk in the 6.5 thread and @Formidilosus has mentioned a time or two he’s seen them in action some.

I shot two whitetails with the 152gr out of a 270win and one with the 170gr out of a muzzleloader.

What did you think of the results?
Muzzleloader was a 20 yard shot quartering hard away with impact velocity around 2100fps. Deer ran 30 yards before I heard it go down. The 45 caliber bullet combined with the shot angle tore the hide open about 4 inches where the bullet entered, heart was destroyed and lungs were heavily damaged. I recovered most of the mangled jacket from the offside shoulder.

First deer with 270 was a 25 yard shot hard quartering away and moving, impact velocity just over 3000fps. The deer dropped immediately and the entrance wound was large enough that I literally was able to reach my hand through the hole in the rib cage and pull out what was left of the heart.

Second deer with 270 was about 65 yards broadside, impact velocity about 3000fps. Shot was high and caught the bottom of the spine above the shoulder. Deer dropped immediately, entrance wound was about half inch with a 3"+ exit from hitting bone.

All were quick clean kills so I am happy with the results. I was surprised that the wound neck length wasn't longer with the 152gr considering how small the hollow point is.

Any thoughts on which of these to try first out of the box?
  • Varget
  • RL16
  • Ramshot Hunter
135 DRT out of a 6.5 CM

In this scenario those three are going to be within about 20fps of each other.
Varget's going to have a low case fill and so ES/SD might be crap.
The only thing that might tip in varget's favor is the other two need about 21.5" for a complete burn in this scenario, so if you have shorter barrel, those other two loose a lot more fps per inch than varget will.

I am having the barrel cut and threaded, should be right at 21.5”. Since I have the Hunter already open, I’ll give it a shot first.

Has anyone loaded up any of the 95gr 6mm terminal shocks? I just got some to load for my .243win and this will be my first time developing a load and I'm a little unsure as to where to start as there is no book data for these. I have some H4350 that I am going to start with. This is probably a stupid question but am I correct to just start at the book minimum for similar projectiles (95gr VLD, SST, NBT etc.)? FWIW DRTs website shows 40.5gr of IMR4350.
Thanks

What's the length of the 95gr 243? They don't list it on their website. What OAL are you seating them to?

I am getting an average of around .927in which is really short although they do claim them to be very short for caliber. I just received them and have not determined an OAL yet.

I thought you were bucking the thought process around here that there is no terminal shock from bullets that creates DRT kills unless you hit em int he head. found it humorous.
