My dad and I are looking into finding an outfitter for a drop camp next year. Preferably in Wyoming or Colorado. Does anyone have any recommendations? We will be rifle hunting. I can't book until January because that's when my work schedule comes out for the year. We have used an outfitter once before for a guided hunt and it was terrible. So we are wanting a reputable outfitter. We have no points for Wyoming. Thanks!

Forgot to mention we will be elk hunting.

Guides don't really care about drop camps. They often throw you somewhere that they aren't taking the guided clients. Paying for only packing is even worse and sometimes they just get too busy to show. Go guided with a good outfitter or DIY. I'm confident that will be the majority view here.

I've never used one, but from what I've seen being around them, I would not use unless I was the first one in there for the season. They drop a crew in them that pounds the area for six days then pull them out and drop another crew in there to pound it again.

I'm sure there are exceptions to this, but it would still be a risk.

Echo.. I’ve heard lots of scary stories about drop camps... might be better off doing a little research and hiring a packer or just going completely on your own

With 0 points, you will most likely not be able to draw a bull elk tag in WY.
CO has a lot of OTC elk units.

So there is little chance for non-residents with no points to hunt elk in Wyoming? What's the process since there are no OTC unit...left over tags?
