Either this season or next, I will be headed back to Colorado for elk, first rifle. Does anyone have a recommendation for a drop camp outfitter in 77 or 751 wilderness area? We will have our own light camping gear, I’m just wanting a ride in and out. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Coloradooutfitters.org is a great starting point, everyone on there is vetted and guaranteed to be licensed bonded insured and permitted which takes a huge hassle out of you of making sure the outfitter is legal.

I will say some outfitters don’t do “spike camps” (your gear to your spot) or they have rules of where they will take you compared to their outfitters camps.

I will say you are a little late on getting booked for the 2026 season, but making some calls doesn’t hurt. Just make sure you follow the laws for hiring an outfitter, hiring an illegal outfitter will hit you hard if you’re caught. That will come from both CPW and BLM/USFS.

You will need to know where you want to go within the unit and that will also determine which outfitter you can use, some are permitted in entire units, some are permitted in certain areas of a unit.
