Any guys making long treks this year, I am driving from Missouri to NE nevada, 18 hours. I have not drove that far since I got out of the army in 1996.

how many hours is doable in a day, I got 2 days set aside for each way, I'm thinking I get a good nite sleep and drive from day light to dark, 12 to 15 and call it, finish the next day.

anticipation will be high on the trip out, be tired on the way back I'm sure so.

what u guys do??

A couple weeks ago I drove back from glacier, 19 hours straight, so that was doable, a lot easier than some of my long january drives to alaska w/24 dogs with....

Would drive hard the first day, but plan to give yourself a good rest the day before you go in.

Last year a freak set of events and family issues caused me to drive from Helena, MT to Aurora, CO with a triple axle flatbed trailer pickup a bunch of materials and a welder for work, then turn around and drive back. 31 hours straight, slept for 10 hours when I got home and will never do that again no matter what.

If I've been looking forward to a trip and I'm amped up to get there I can do 15 then I'm done. No matter what don't push it. When I was 18 I was up for almost two days right before graduation and I fell asleep at the wheel and totaled my ranger. Luckily it was just me involved in the accident, well and a telephone pole, but your life and the possible other people that may be involved are more important then any trip. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Only time I drink energy drinks is on long drives for hunting trips. I usually won't do much more than 16 in a day. Bottom line though is be safe! If your dozing off at the wheel pull over and get some rest it's not worth killing yourself or others over saving some time.

2868 miles each way . About 45 hours . I take two naps about two hours each sitting in the drivers seat. I take the naps about 3:30 am until the sun starts coming up. Don't push through if you get sleepy though. Pull over and take a twenty minute nap and that will usually take care of it. I drink some coffee but not too much. I try to avoid the bug eyed and wired feeling and having to stop and take a leak every 200 miles.

Heading to CO. from GA. Probably 22-23 hours at least. We usually keep the wheels turning but this year I won't have another driver. Used to drive from GA to MT every year for several years in a row. Would usually drive pretty much straight through with a couple of pit stops at rest areas for couple hours. 36 hours is a haul for real!! Just do what you can handle. Kind of like Husky390 said...caffeine and Copenhagen used to be my staple items. Don't over do it.

I'll be heading out after another 11-12 hour workday. Looks like it'll be my 29th in a row. I've been pushing it pretty hard for about the last three years. This last year and a half has been ridiculous. Sleep deprivation is a constant. I'm planning on driving a few, maybe four or so, and then sleeping like I haven't slept in the past three years. I'll take my time the next day taking time for some good breaks. Then I'll have the whole next night to sleep at my buddy's before we head out the next morning.

I have gone through too much to get to this point to kill myself on the drive and I am not going to limp into the mountains all ragged out.

being alone, 18 hours is a loooong drive. Make sure you have a whole lot of coffee.
Last year a buddy and I drove 26 hours straight through to WY. That was tough, but we are doing it again this year.

I have about an 18.5 hour drive from Texas to western Colorado and more often than not we drive the whole way without stopping. However there are always 2-3 people in the vehicle. This year I am going solo and plan on driving 12 hours, spending the night in New Mexico and driving the rest of the way the next day. On the way up its a good idea so that you arrive refreshed. On the way home though its most always straight through.

Avoid eating a meal. Just a few snacks will get me through and water to keep hydrated.

Yip,
and if I get tired, I pull over for a power nap no matter the time of day. Sometimes that is like sleeping 8 hours. Like said, just don't push it. Best to stay alive so you can come back next year.

I drove with my truck and 7x14 enclosed trailer straight from Greenville sc to Oklahoma City, (1000)slept in the bass pro parking lot for two hours woke up and drove straight into flagstaff. Slept for a couple hours drove straight into southern Cali. Three days later drove from southern Cali to my elk camp in north east Utah 650 miles. Friends say "I'm a driver"

A few years ago after working a 9 hour day I drove from South East Washington to Central Nebraska for a whitetail hunt. Caffeine and Copenhagen kept me going but after 16 hours I had to pull over and sleep in the Cabelas parking lot for a few hours, just two hours from my final destination. Pushing it like that seems stupid now....

In the past, I have made several trips from CA to TX~1600 to 1800 miles one way. My trip last fall for Wyoming antelope was a cake compare to that. About 800miles, roughly a 12hr drive. I got drawn again for WY antelope this year, so I'll be making the trip again.
