Drew NM Unit 53/55 bighorn sheep tag 2026

Looking for any information on 1st season hunt .
I know the sheep in the area had some die back from pneumonia back in 2022 whats the sheep population now day and what trophy size should be expected..

IDK, but what a tag! I hunt there for elk and always put in. A biologist can answer all of that.

you won't have trouble finding sheep. Those aren't the biggest rams in the state, but you drew a NM bighorn tag, who cares!

Just go to the Gorge, you can walk right up to them and stab em with a knife. I don't know if it's just a bighorn thing but the sheep in NM are extremely unafraid of people.

views from a training run up Gold Hill and Wheeler today. Didn’t see any sheep but they’re around.
