Yep, drew a muzzleloader tag for CO 80/81. Getting out there Sept 12, leaving on the 21st. Been so busy at work this summer, haven't had time to really look into the area, been a long time since I've been there. Looking forward to it though, really hoping to get some meat in the freezer. I'll be backpack hunting.

Anyone know of a comprehensive topo map for these units? I don't think the San Juan Mtns/Del Norte Trail map covers the whole area...(of course I may decide to be in the area covered by the SJM map, but let's imagine someone wants to look at the entirety of the units)

Nice! My best guess is that I'll end up in the South San Juan wilderness as well - good luck man I hope you bag one.

I love the south san juans, very steep rugged country but it is where I hunt every year.

Will answer PMs by tomorrow evening once I can set down and take a little time. Sorry I haven't answered sooner, but we had a death in the family.

Do you have any experience with cell signal in the wilderness area? We planning renting a satellite phone but I've heard some say if you get high there is signal.

No need for a satt phone. In the deep draws you will not have service from any cell phone provider but I have yet to not find a signal above 10k. If you find an open area just test your signal, usually you'll find a few different spots to use for calling home. I picked up a spot gen 2 on clearance from cabelas this year because sometimes you are just to exhausted or the phone signal area is in the wrong direction and it is late. I usually only call every two or three days but I now have a 3 year old and 7day old so figure it would give my wife a tad more piece of mind to get something from me daily.

I have Sprint service so can't say how AT&T is and I hear Verizon is good.

Flying out tomorrow. Everything is packed (I hope...I packed and unpacked like three times). I'm having nightmares about the baggage not making it. Low-probability on a direct flight from SFO to Denver...but still. Last minute nerves.
