DOI proposing to turn public lands into housing

Youre welcome to feel however you want. But the advertisement being sold to everyone by the pro public land lobby is that these public lands are far too valuable to sell bc they can be used for energy development, minerals, ranching, timber, etc in addition to the activities you like or care about. In fact the previous administration committed in excess of 20 million acres of those public lands to renewable energy and renewable infrastructure and the largest conservation groups in the business were in full support of it.
This is true, those acres are completely lost if they are solar farms, wind energy is ugly and inefficient as sin…

I found this pretty interesting. As noted, there's a difference in selling a few acres here and there versus actively trying to sell it all.

In any case, this was pretty good. You'll have to fast forward to get to the public land discussion.

That was interesting and they did a follow up on their next one that explained a bunch about the process that the senators are using to bury the issue and get it passed.

One of the laughable things they talked about was BLM land sales around Las Vegas for “affordable housing”. They did some digging and found multi million dollar homes built on those parcels.

I’ll shut up at this point because I read a post in here that the mods want to keep political statements out.

Here is an easy way to share one's voice about congress selling off our public lands. RMEF has it set up to add your address and they fill in the rest it looks like.

Thought I read in one of the other 14 threads on this topic that was from months ago.
It may have been I just saw that today but it’s still an active problem.

This guy has a few podcasts talking about how some of the legislators are trying to short circuit the in place system.

That guy is a grifter making money off public land and reason people complain about over crowding and opportunity is dwindling for everyone.

FLPMA is one of the processes that are being bypassed. I think that the Wildlife Federation and HOWL serve our interests in DC quite well. Anyway, I support those organizations because their focus is on hunting and fishing opportunity. I support BHA also because we need just as many dogs in this fight that we can muster. This Bill is a simple majority vote. The Republicans own Congress and they will decide if our public lands are sold off or not. If a lobbyist carries liberal baggage to DC with them, Republicans may not give enough attention to their argument.

Republicans’ focus on this bill is tax cuts and reducing the size of government. It looks good on paper, sell off as much public land as possible to keep the deficit down which will help to make tax cuts viable. But they need to realize that the elephant in the room is the outdoor sports industry. I haven’t seen any data but I have heard it is a $1.3 trillion Industry. I will go out on a limb and just say that it is a 2 trillion dollar industry. I am talking about boat builders, rifle makers, optics, sportswear, bikes, etc. you get the picture.

Tax cuts won’t do the Outdoor Industry much good if they don’t have the profit to tax because they will lose profit if public lands are sold off. Most of the investors of the larger Outdoor Corporations are not in the Western states that have land on the chopping block. I would like to point out that states with large counties are sparsely populated. There are only a handful of cities in the affected western states that are larger than 500K. Nevada and Arizona are the only western states that are swing states. This Republican Congress needs to understand that there are millions of voters in Red States and a multi-Trillion dollar industry that does not want Public lands in the West sold off.

Kurtz, I can’t disagree with that assessment in any way. However, on the podcasts that I have listened to he is giving good insight into what is going on with this bill/situation.

There’s a bunch of people doing the same public land promotion/exploitation not just him. Unfortunate as it is that’s the world we live in.

It’s a very small portion of the industry unfortunately, that big number covers a lot of general activities. The actual effect will be pretty small and mostly affect hunters.

It is a small win for our continued access to public lands... that Senator Lee withdrew his Federal Public Land Sale proposal from the "Big Beautiful Bill" Saturday night. But this will NOT be the last time Senator Lee or others will try and convince themselves (and the American public) that federal divestment of public lands to private or state holdings is in our best interest....

Please stay educated and vigilant on the subject.

Here are some informational commentaries:

Not surprised to see that this

Glad this was the outcome, I have to imagine it's hard to convince an electorate to reelect you after selling off public lands for no coherent reason besides short-term revenue.

I wouldn't be so adamantly against it if I thought for one minute they would auction it in small parcels. That would give everyone a fair chance of owning some of it. Arizona has several US forests, several Indian reservations, lots of BLM and a good bit of restricted Trust land. We lose access to some portion of it every year. The US Forest service closes old roads more and more each year. Then there is some really questionable land classified as US forest that don't have one tree on it.

That is total bullshit…Why don’t you guys show some respect? His name is Randy Newberg. He went to DC and lobbied against the sale of public lands. I don’t think he is a registered lobbyist so that means he probably spent his own money while in DC. If it wasn’t for him, the Senate Bill could have been very different. So before you bite the hand that feeds you, I recommend you get the facts before posting this drivel.

I do not agree with Randy on all of the issues but as far as public lands are concerned, Randy makes a difference and has influenced public policy more than most of us will ever know. Outfitters bring the hate on Randy just like they bring the hate on me and other hunting, fishing, trapping opportunity advocates. I have pretty much had it with all of the outfitter trolls that are constantly bashing hunting advocates and whining about issues they know nothing about.

So a big thank you goes out to Randy for his passionate and tireless efforts to save our hunting on public lands!

Randy has made his money Off exploiting a public resource, he’s bought lo tags for his give aways, and now he’s hunting guided big money hunts because he can. Nothing against the guy, but don’t kid yourself. Most of the diy public land influencers, when they get enough money become Rez, private land, and guided hunters. It’s the natural progression.

Get off your cross, you don’t have to be an outfitter to think you are misguided at best.

Well when the state of Arizona is giving him tags and he is a paid advertiser. He has influenced alright and here we are tags hard to get and public ground crowded .

While I agreed with Kurt I also pointed out his podcast was providing good insight into the BBB and he was able to do that due to his work in DC.

Now that the Sen Lee sale and the Roadless act revisions are temporarily behind us we need to stay vigilant on what the real assholes are up to. Like alligator Alcatraz and the big sugar rock mine adjacent to the EAA reservoir in Florida as a start. And don’t forget that there are interests that want to mine in the BWCA and I can guarantee that someone is scheming to start working on Pebble Mine again.

As I said earlier, this land sale whackadoodle nonsense was just to muddy the water and draw people’s attention away from the main goal, which was to cut taxes for billionares and the rest of us get to pay for it. Here we are, 3 trillion farther in debt, fewer people with health insurance, but Elon, Jeff and Mark get to pay fewer taxes. Well done America.
