Dog help

If you make sure they’re not infected, I’d give the Glandex a try before switching up too many things. They’re just a fiber supplement so it bulks up the stool and helps clean the glands out.

Unfortunately, some dogs are just predisposed to having issues. My current chessie has issues with it. We take him to the vet every other month to have them cleaned out. It’s an anatomic issue with him. They’re just seated a little too deep in the anal canal so they don’t get cleaned out when the stool squeezes out. It’s not a huge deal, just one of those maintenance things we try to stay on top of to keep him healthy.

Good luck.

I’ve also looked at doing it myself, but I think it’s painful at times and paying someone else $30 to do that to him so I don’t have to is well worth it to me.

Dietary changes and the GlandX supplement are worth a try. If any possibility of infection I will flush them and infuse with antibiotics. Anal gland removal is another option if nothing else works and the problem is unbearable, then problem solved. It's not the easiest surgery and there is some recovery time for obvious reasons but once done and healed they're GTG.

I have a rescue that had digestive and skin issues when I first got him. They fed him whatever was donated at the shelter. I tried multiple foods before I settled on inukshuk marine with essential dog from Elite Nutrition added. That's been the best combo for him. It tightened up his stool and helped with anal gland and skin issues. Inukshuk is great, but I can really tell a difference when I add the essential dog from Elite Nutrition. I didn't add it to the last bag and I could tell in his stool. Got a fresh bag and added it and he's back to normal in just a few days.

I've never been a big believer in adding stuff to dog food, but I've become a believer in the Elite Nutrition products. Worth checking out. I heard about them on the HoundsmanXP podcast. They've got an entire episode dedicated to their products.
