Eh. Think after a few thousand years of fighting; shooting at each over there is just Sunday afternoon entertainment for them. Or Wednesday of friday...whatever

All you macho armchair warriors calling for WW3: Ukraine is openly calling for foreign freedom fighters to head there and put their lives on the line.

Book a one way ticket to Poland and prove you're not all talk.

Round trip is usually cheaper, and you never know, you may need a ride back.

I'd be surprised if they actually do. China would get hit harder than Russia. Like it or not, the global economy is "managed" by the US.

But then again, I've been surprised before...
We couldn't stop trading with China if we wanted to. They make almost everything including our RX drugs. If China takes Taiwan they would immediately be the largest producer of advanced computer chips on the planet. Taiwan does 51% of all chips and around 90% of the more advanced chips. They started building some new factories in the U.S. but they are about two years away from production. Every cell phone manufactured uses TSMC chips. I think most of our manufacturing in general would be brought to it's knees within a few months just due to lack of spare parts. Where I work, we already have machines down for several months waiting parts. China also doesn't care about their people. I think they would trade their economy to completely destroy the United States without firing a shot.

While I feel for the Ukrainians citizens suffering, you guys realize that Russia has been complaining about biolabs on Ukraine’s border region for several years. That is in direct violation of previous agreements. Those complaints fell on deaf ears. They took matters into their own hands before the situation turned into a ‘Wuhan’ episode.
Not to mention that Biden cronies instituted a coup in Ukraine about a decade ago that replaced a democratically elected govt. so that characters like the Kerrys, Romneys, H. Biden, and Pelosi’s crew could line their pockets thru corruption and money laundering in Ukraine.
Carry on.
The truth will prevail.

The Dr. Vet. who my daughter works for has gone to Ukraine twice to fight we them in boarder clashes. Last time was several months back. He really wants to go, but his wife put the breaks on that idea. Boarder clash is far different than all out war.

Yeah, we could stop trading with China if the desire, and need, was there. Taiwan may manufacture chips, but they also require the tech support for it. Without that, China is dead on the water.

China also doesn't have the infrastructure for fuel, that alone is a deterrent to try anything stupid, and up until now, China didn't know how the world would respond with an unwarranted invasion. Now they do. China also has an aging work force but don't have a replacement due to their one child policy. It's catching up to them. I would expect China to look very different in 10 years from now.

One of the niche markets the US exports is tech. The US really isn't at China's mercy. The bottom line for CEO's are though, too bad for them.

Remember, the Chinese, and Russians, thieve everything they have tech...

The chips are made in Taiwan. You can't just make them here tomorrow. It would take a couple years to build the factories, install the equipment, build the process and staff everything. I've worked in semiconductor for 30 years. We could do it, but it would take years. Just think about spare parts for anything. One part we use all the time is a driver for robot motors. We can't get them. We can't build them here. Circuit boards, cases, software would all have to be created here. It's like that for everything. We could do it here but it would take years. Things would grind to a halt without these parts and China and Taiwan make a lot of these things for us.

Then we damn well better start building it, and I mean today. If it can be built over seas it can be built here.

I didn't see anyone calling for WW3, this entire situation could already be over had the US upped energy production and agreed to supply Europe's needs and our own. Roll back restrictions and renew federal leases have American energy and independence.

They want a war though, it sells. Someone has to fund the war machine to help the poor defense contractor stocks that were spiraling down.

As for the Ukrainian foreign legion, we have enough problems here, to go fight a unjust war somewhere else is mindless. What happened to mask and vax to go to Thanksgiving dinner with your family? Now we can go fight for a corrupt eastern European government care free? I certainly hope we don't end up there with our military again.

While I don't agree with the invasion of Russia,. I can understand why they did, Ukraine has been in conflict since its founding. Nothing more than a puppet state for the US, much the same way Belarus is a puppet state for Russia.

I agree, it's not an overnight process. The US still doesn't need China for anything, but the CEO's do. That's why it's all been outsourced. China and Taiwan didn't invent the tech used here...

In Feb 2018 Russian forces posing as mercenaries straight up attacked US forces in Syria. They got their asses kicked. It wasn’t a war then. This is not grounds for war now.

There is the first of 6 TSMC fabs being built right now in NW Phoenix, with each Fab being 2.5 times the size of an Intel Fab. They are 18 months out from being operational, but working feverishly. When that one is done, the next one will start (may start before this first one is complete). Its in the works, but as pointed out, it takes years to happen. TSMC does have one Fab already in WA.

I read about that. Intel is building the largest factories on the planet in Ohio but they are just starting. Globalfoundries is starting a new factory outside of Albany NY. That's probably 18 months out. Onsemi is expanding in Fishkill NY. One thing I don't like is the government subsidizing the industry. Especially since GF and TSMC are not American companies. I think GF received $500 million to start their factory. They are owned by The United Arab Emirates. At least they are good paying jobs.

As far as information in OP, that had little chance of breaking out into all out war, but now with Russia continuing its attack on civilian targets, and bombing within 6 mile of polish boarder, things could get out of hand. One errant cruise missile into Poland could be looked on as an attack on NATO. The UN is saying the threat of nuclear war is in the realm of possibility. Cooler heads need to step up and stop this before it's too late.
