How do you like the Desert Guides?
The jury is still out. I bought them used not long ago. I like the initial feel, but I'm not sure I like the lower height as compared to the Mountain Extreme. I got a little hot spot on my heel the first time I wore them on hilly terrain. I need to test different socks and lacing methods.

10.5 on size
I have worn each of these brands a full season the last few years and passed them along as not for me:
Scarpa Charmoz (toe box tight)
Lowa Tibet GTX (fit was off for me)
Zamberlan Guide 960 (liked but too heavy)

Wore these to break in and ditched them:
Danner Gila & High Ground (way uncomfortable for my feet)
Under Armour Brow Tine
La Sportiva Trango Cube (narrow for me)

Boots I currently run & love:
Crispi Valdres (non insulated but comfy as slippers)
Salewa Rapace (quick & nimble)

Its probably because they are already falling apart:)

In all fairness though, you could break an anvil.

The military should have "Avery compliant" rated gear. If it is also American Sourced, then it would be Berry compliant, too. Berry-Avery Compliant gear, or BA for short. ;)

My boot size seems to very depending on manufacturer. For the past 8 years I’ve been wearing a 42.5 Scarpa Mont Blanc GTX, but a couple days ago I bought a pair of La Sportiva Nepal Evo GTX’s in a 42. I’ve really liked my Scarpa’s, and for the last couple years I’ve been saying that when the time comes to replace them, I’d buy the same thing. Well I didn’t buy Scarpa’s, and I hope I didn’t just make a big mistake.

Never understood the Salomon love. They leak right out of the box and maybe last a season.

I love that I got them for just over $100 :)

Yes, you are correct that they leak right out of the box. Nothing like figuring that out on opening morning waking up to a fresh 6 inches of snow.

I broke them in, but never had worn them with precipitation present.
