Simple, stupid question… do you wash (or other type of treatment) your new clothes before wearing them on a hunt? Being specific, Kuiu…

If it's something I'm worried about smelling me, such as deer, I hang them outside. If it seems bright, such as orange I'll make sure they hang in the sun for a couple weeks. The sun is the best at taking that glare off. I don't think I've ever washed brand new pants/shirts, and I know I never washed outer layers like jackets. When I do wash hunting clothes, it's nothing but water and baking soda. With camo, I like to rub the outside in dirt afterwards. Camo will lighten with age, and dirt keeps it effective.

I always wash when new. I have had to learn more than I've wanted to know regarding textiles, etc... over the past few years. It amazed me what fabric actually goes through prior to hitting the shelves or distributor. Regardless if it is a $10 shirt or $150 shirt, it should be washed prior to use. After use, I wash very sparingly. Only if really needed due to odor, exposure, etc... I will typically wash at the end of the season. This give me a chance to inventory my clothing, inspect it, and make sure it is scent free.

New? Yes. I wash my gear by season... early/lighter stuff a week before opening day and then hang them in the sun to air dry. Then it's into a sealed tote. Base layers I'll rewash as needed depending on sweat and repeated use. As I get into the season the mid and outer layers have had their wash date and then unless visibly dirty, they get the Ozone treatment once or twice during the mid/late seasons. Typically wash the harder used stuff after ML ends in mid-January and then back in sealed totes until late September again.

I was everything in all free and clear. Its just normal unscented detergent. It really doesn't matter though.
