I am convinced that the single greatest tool to help people learn how to and enjoy shooting, is a suppressor.

Put a Omega 300 on my .300 win, both the wife and boy can shoot it now.

6.5 creedmoor, 6 creed, or 243. I think the 6 creed is probably the best Youth rifle for deer. 6.5 is a little more versatile. 7mm-08 is good choice too. They will all do the job.

Your 257Bob is significantly more capable than you're giving it credit for. I'd swap out the scope for something like a 3x9SS and rock on. Of course if you want an excuse to buy a new rifle, don't let me dissuade you.
