If you know bc, mv, DA you can figure roughly what cartridge you need to reach your intended maximum distance with your chosen bullet.

I’ve had to place an order directly with the manufacturer in order to get exactly what I want instead of waiting for a distributor to get some in stock. Just picked one up from Brux and same with a bartlein a while back. Wait was a few months but I didn’t have to worry about tracking one down.

OP I think the 750 taperless profile that a couple places offer is a solid option otherwise depending on barrel length the 3b or 4 profiles from bartlein is where I will sitting from here on out.

Bartlein is claiming a 10 to 12 month lead time right now. That is absolutely absurd to me. I can’t for the life of me understand why it’s so hard to get stuff like this out the door. Everything else in my life professionally or personally, when I need an item I walk into a store and I buy it, or a few clicks online and it’s on its way. Why can’t the firearm industry get its act together!

Yeah I feel your pain. For reference both times I was quoted x amount of time and the blank showed up well ahead of the quoted time if that makes you feel any better.

The general thought process is that you first pick a bullet. That bullet will upset down to a specific FPS. Then you decide what your max killing distance will be. Only then do you decide the actual head stamp. If your bullet upsets at 1800FPS and you need to kill at 450 yards max having a cartridge that holds 1800FPS out to 1000 yards makes no sense. You are burning extra powder, extra money, and extra recoil for nothing.

Just take the minimum elevation and maximum temp you hunt in and that will get you close enough. Higher and colder will extend that distance. This isn't an exact thing because you never know exactly what MV you will have until to shoot the thing. You are just looking to see if, for example, you want a 6ARC vs a 6CM vs a 6UM. Same bullet but the effective range grows with each bump in powder.

He said they had a 6mm 7.5t in inventory and he could cut it to whatever contour I wanted. 2 weeks lead time. Now we’re talking! At least someone knows how to actually have a product to sell. My only hesitation is using a lesser known barrel company. The price was right, as was the service. I hope it works out!

I typically don't expect the small barrel makers to answer the phone when I call, since most the time they're working in the shop. It seems like you have a better chance at getting ahold of them first thing in the morning or at the end of the day when they catch up on office work.

Both PBB and PVA offer some pretty light contour pre-fits. I think most people (myself included) are going with slightly heavier contours now to have a muzzle diameter to accommodate a suppressor. If you're in a suppressor-legal state and haven't tried one, I can't recommend it enough.

I hope the Ace barrel shoots well for you and seems like lots of guys like them since UM started offering them.

Do they chamber as well or just sell raw barrels? Mind sharing what you got and the cost? It might be a fluke but probably not because of all of the other successful stories but the PVA I have in .223 is an absolute hammer. If I'm going to pay a high price for a barrel, I'd be prone to spend my money there solely based on the experience I have with one of their barrels. Additionally, they have that cool .750 taperless that I think is the perfect combo.

Listening to the Ace guys on S2H, they seem very detail oriented and I wouldn't have an issue getting a barrel from them too. I don't have a good local smith and haven't built a rapport with anyone so I'd prefer to get a barrel already chambered if they can do that too. Figure I trust the people who are making the barrel just as much as anyone else and I don't have to ship the barrel or wait any longer and incur that additional expense. I wonder how many people share that same sentiment sometimes because it seems like everyone sends it off to get chambered. Luckily I've had really good luck with all of the barrels that I've gotten which is around 6 or 7 now and all from different manufacturers. The standout is my .223 PVA and my 300PRC proof though.

Plenty of people running a suppressed rifle with a 3b. Order away. It all depends on what length it's cut at and what thread pitch. I'd imagine the medium Palma will accept the vast majority of all thread pitches and covers their ass.

If you end your barrel at .750 and thread it 5/8 you still have .125" in diameter to the OD or 0.0625" of shoulder. When I called AB about the required shoulder they told me 50thou so you still have room left to go.

That makes sense, at 22" if I did my math right I'll be right at .750 which is well within TBAC's minimum. Obviously if I go 20" it's even better. I'll stick to my plan just got cold feet when I read that ha!

Where are you guys finding such magical barrels? I have been looking for a Bartlein 3B (or comparable name cut bbl) in 6mm 7.5 twist for months and can’t find one.
