Do I need pants warmer than Attacks?

Katana is definitely tougher. Fabric is thinner than the attack but a lot denser and nylon helps with that too. I didn’t care for the fit of them as they were stiff in the upper legs causing slight chafing if not wearing long underwear. Also they should drop the “stretch” from the name as they aren’t blue jean stiff but still far from the attack.

Yeah I tried the Kutana after reading all the praise of them on here and didnt like how they fit. They were exactly like you described - tight in the thighs, felt restricted if I crouched or when I walked, and very little stretch.

I rotate from Attack to Axis when temps are below freezing, when its sub zero Varusteleka STS wool...

Agreed on the fit of the Kutana pants. I hate the front thigh pockets they are useless. The pants fit so tight, the mesh in the front thigh pockets pulled out every single hair on my thighs. They sit in my closet waiting for giveaway to a needy young hunter.

Yep. But I will say they were phenomenal in unsettled mountain weather and the angled cargo pockets really boosted the hip vents. If they added a stretch panel in the crotch they would be close to perfect.

What size? I found the 36 waist and up was on a normal (Kuiu normal) size scale but the 34 was fit like it was from the youth line

I size up to a 38 waist to get room in the thighs in almost every brand out there with the exception of Kings Camo stuff. I should have prefaced my thoughts with, I am 5'10, 240-245. I'm not a fatty either. This might be a me problem. However the attack pants sized up to 38 fit to my liking.

I wear the Attacks into the teens here in the SE in non heated hunting houses. The layering is a real thing as you can get to warm moving about .I have worn them on 2 Colorado 2nd season gun hunts and did ok both when it was cold (20's) and as it warmed up during the day,

Funny but 20's in Co.dosent seem as cold as in TN.

I think a lot of it has to do with your individual hunting style and intended use case. Even my later hunts are all very active and the corrugate foundry is the warmest I can stand. For glassing/static periods utilize thermal zip offs and potentially puffy pants. So I’d say it mostly depends on that and how warm you run just naturally as it’s all relative to that.

Definitely like the guides for later season if doing lots of glassing or horse riding. Really just a temperature vs activity decision and definitely a time and place for them. 90% of the time I’m wearing a pant similar weight to the attack though.
