Hi everyone, I’m currently contemplating a 7MM BC purchase and I’m stuck between the Mark V backcountry guide or the proof elevation 2.0. I’ll be getting the 16 inch barrel version of either (Nomad Ti OTB) and I’m in a part of the country where I really can’t find either of these to put hands on. I’ve done a ton of research on all the aspects of the proof rifle and I’m leaning in that direction, but I can get a titanium mark five for roughly the same price and it’s close to a pound lighter. I am partial to the sporter style stock as I do a lot of still hunting. What’s the consensus on the mark V titanium action?

Might be off topic or late, hahaha
But I have a 307 in 7mm backcountry and man does it shoot good and cycle well.
The shorter bolt throw of the mark 5 is one of the best selling points and would be a big upgrade from my rifle. Big fan of my carbon bastion
The carbon blacktooth stock would be a great way shed even more weight and have a beautiful rifle

Decisions, decisions. I have a Weatherby 307 Alpine in 25 Creedmoor and I am impressed with the rifle, its action, its overall feel and quality, and its accuracy. I also have a Proof in .308 and it is a winner too. Wonderful rifle. Let us know what you decide and how you like your choice.

Not a chance I'd go for a Ti action with 56 degree bolt throw on a 80k PSI cartridge.

All the recent mkV steel actions i've fondled in recent years are sticky with stiff bolt lift. Add Ti and more pressure and it's likely to get worse. Like I'd probably rather have a ruger or savage action.

Ti actions do come with their own potential issues. I am sorry to hear that Mark V actions might be problematic nowadays. I was referring to the 307 action which is, of course, entirely different, and I have been happy with it.
