Just wondering if Animal Rights Groups purchase big game tags just so they wont go to hunters?

Thoughts?

They've been known to draw tags in the Minnesota elk lottery before. Not sure what exact groups though.

Would make sense to a point if they go after extremely rare tags like sheep. But for deer, elk, antelope and bear they would have to purchase an obscene amount to make a dent. I think the state agencies monitor harvest and population so it would ultimately be a zero sum game...they would just sell more tags

It seems like there were a few others,I just remembered reading about a photographer.
Then wondered if since he now had a big game tag he would now need to hire an outfitter to go into wilderness areas.

My follow up questions is why don't states come up with a few requirements for applying. . .

For instance:
1. Must have hunters safety card and # at application if over 12 years old (or 10 whatever the state requirement is)

2. Statue stating something to the effect that "by purchasing this tag you agree that it is you intention to pursue the above named animal with the intention of harvesting said animal and following all applicable laws in that pursuit." "Purchasing this tag with the express intention of not pursuing for harvest an animal constitutes hunter harassment and shall be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law"

I know it's more laws and difficult to enforce, but when people publicly apply to keep tags out of hunters hands you can go after them.

I've posted on here before when Patagonia got a bunch of antis to get bison tags in Montana to help stop a hunt. Yes a bunch of them also got on the grizzly list in Wyoming.

Starting to think that is why we see a screw-ball of a surge in applications in NM. NM needs to pull its head out of its ass and require hunter's safety up until you die...

One tag that I'm aware of not a bunch.

I couldn't care less if they draw tags and don't hunt them. They pay their money, they take the time to apply, let them. Game and Fish agencies make quota decisions knowing that some tags will be hunted, some will be hunted a few days, and some will not be hunted at all.

Wildlife belongs to all citizens, not just those that hunt.

Its not different than someone drawing a tag, getting a new job, moving, having a family emergency, etc. and not hunting it.

Hunters need to get out of the mindset that every tag they draw needs to attached to a dead animal...and also how to mind their own business.

So they did and now you are trying to down play it. Why?

there was a National campaign for anti’s to try to draw WY grizzly tags(even though it was a quota system and would keep issuing tags until quota was filled) Are you going to down play that also?

I have no doubt people do it. But from the amount of hunters we all see and the cost of the licenses I would say it is minimal.

Most people who "love the animals" are broke. Not all, but most.

I could care less who draws what tags. They have as much privilege to draw these tags as I do as long as they have the points to do so, and in CO they have to have a valid hunter's safety card to apply, and buy a qualifying license first as well. Whether they hunt or not isn't even a concern of mine. In fact, when I draw tags......I'm always hoping that no one else with a tag shows up, then I have the unit to myself. (y) In 2013 when we had all that rain, for two weeks I literally saw only one other bow hunter out there......and that was truck camping covering and hunting a very wide swath of that unit. It was awesome.
