Anyone use a DNZ mount for a Tikka T3 and a 50mm scope.....Do I need a medium for low mount? Thanks. I know it's a long shot but thought I'd ask on here before I order both and send one back.

Tim,

I haven't used the DNZ mount but I just looked up the specs for them. For a 50mm scope you'll need a mount that is 0.98" to the centerline of the scope(25.4 mm per inch). The low mount will give you 0.94" and the medium will give you 1.06". If I was ordering I would probably order the low, since your objective will be out over the barrel and the tikkas have a decent taper to them. What scope are you planning to use?

scope tubes have different lengths which make the potential contact point of the 50mm bell potentially different - jfronk is "probably" correct but this close to hunting season I'd order both LOW and MED - You'll get faster service from Optics Planet on ebay for delivery and maybe a better price too if they have them so check them too

Keep in mind 50mm isn't the OD of the scope housing. The 44mm objective on my scope is like 2" OD (~50mm) off memory (I measured it the other day for a scope cap).

Tim, best bet if you have both scope and gun on hand is hold it where you think it goes and measure how much rise you need on the rings. I run talley lows on my Tikkas with scopes that are 40-44mm objectives and can say I doubt a 50mm would fit with those rings. I haven't looked at the talley low height versus dnz specs so not sure how close they compare off hand.

Pods,
Thanks for catching the OD/ID mistake.

Tim,
Just looked at the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 specs to get an idea of OD for a 50mm scope. OD on that is 2.26" so it looks like you'll probably have to go with a medium.

Contact the guys at DNZ via phone or email, give them the info on your scope and rifle and they can tell what will work. They are always very helpful and quick about answering those questions.

From my experience with both Talley and DNZ mounts on a Tikka I found I had to run a lapping bar so the scope sat correctly using Talley Lightweights. I had no problem with the DNZ's concerning alignment and to date after using them on Browning,CVA,Remington Rifles no issues. They are about an 1 hour drive from my home and their Customer Service is superb.
